At present, cancer therapy has entered the era of precision treatment, and more attention has been paid to the cancer itself as well as the quality of life of patients and their family members. The evaluation of the patient-reported outcome(PRO)can accurately reflect the patients ' understanding of their own status, the degree of satisfaction and the effectiveness of the treatment. Therefore,it is widely used in the evaluation of the palliative care outcomes.Palliative care Outcome Scale(POS),as one of the PRO measurement tools, has been popularized all over the world. It is used to evaluate the patient's physical, psychological, social, spiritual, informational and supportive needs, and also used as a screening or monitoring tool for the changes in the health status of patients. With the scientific research and clinical implementation of the POS scale,it has developed into a family of POS,which provides important clinical reference for clinical staff, and embodies its good rigor, scientific and humanistic nature.Currently,POS is mainly applied in the screening and evaluation of symptoms and the communication between doctors and patients with malignant cancer. In scientific research, the POS is mainly used as a standard scale to develop new scales.Although there are still some problems in the research due to the lack of sample size and research design defects, there is no doubt that the POS is a meaningful measurement tool. Therefore, this article reviews the clinical implementation and research status of the POS in the assessment of palliative care of malignant cancer patients. The POS family is expected to be applied to the clinical practice in China and play an important role in evaluating the quality of life of the patients and family members, the quality of medical care.It is expected to make a positive contribution to the development of palliative care in China.
