Objective: To explore the risk factors which influence the prognos is of neonatal purulent meningitis. In order to give adequate attention at the early stages of disease, give active treatment and intervention, and improve the prognosis. Methods: One hundred and fifty-one neonates who diagnosed with purulent meningitis at the Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical U niversity during 2010 to 2014,were retrospectively analyzed with the cl inical data and divided into good prognosis group and poor prognosis g roup according to the results of prognosis.Compared the differences of two groups on clinical manifestations, the results of laboratory examin ations and the results of etiology examinations,to analysis the factors r elated to the prognosis of purulent meningitis in neonates. Results: Of 151 cases,68 cases were poor prognosis while 83 ca ses were good prognosis. The incidence of premature rupture of membr anes(29.4% vs 25.3%),the incidence of LBW/VLBW(16.2% vs 14.5%),but they were not related to the poor prognosis(P>0.05).The main clinical manifestations of the neonatal purulent meningitis were fever, poor response, convulsion and so on,but there was no significant diffe rence between the two groups(P>0.05).According to the results of blo od analysis, the values of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein were not re lated to the poor prognosis(P>0.05).With the results of cerebrospinal f luid examination, the sugar concentration is lower than normal, while th e protein is higher.Compared with the good prognosis group,in poor p rognosis group the median value of sugar concentration of cerebrospinal fluid(1.38mmol/L vs 2.08mmol/L),and the protein of cerebrospinal fl uid(2.17g/L vs 1.20g/L),there were significant differences(P<0.05).In terms of pathogens, the totality of bacteria is 47 and the main pathoge ns were gram negative bacteria(36/47 cases,76.6%),among them the m ain bacteria is E.coli(24/36 cases,66.7%),but there was no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion: The risk factors of poor prognosis of neonatal purule nt meningitis were low sugar concentration and high protein content of cerebrospinal fluid.
