Frailty syndrome is the key point in geriatric comprehensive assessment. It is the result of interaction between multiple factors working on multiple systems, and is closely related to adverse health consequences.Current studies showed that frailty index(FI)and Frailty phenotype(FP)can be used as the objective models to assess frailty syndrome, and other objective models based on these two objective models is derived.Make assessment for frailty on the basis of the overall assessment, find out the overall situation,as soon as possible to early identify high-risk groups and treatment measures,is very important for the geriatric with acute and critical disease. With the development of diagnosis and treatment, the survival rate of patients of intensive care unit increased significantly, but the mortality remain high in the old patients with critical disease. After treatment for survival, the dysfunction of muscle strength decline and muscle endurance descent caused by critical disease make that the old patients is susceptible to ICU-acquired weakness(ICUAW).ICUAW affects the prognosis of patients, and there is no specific treatment for the prevention of ICUAW,mainly by supporting preventive measures by finding clinical potential risk factors. This artical reviewed the development process and research progress of frailty syndrome and ICUAW,in order to provide reference for clinical work.
