Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2(SGLT2)inhibitors are the newest class of oral anti-diabetic medications. The mechanism of action of SGLT2 inhibitors is that SGLT2 inhibitors can modulate renal glucose reabsorption and plasma glucose level.Based on current studies,SGLT2 inhibitors are effective as adjunct therapy to insulin in T1 DM,may not only improve glycemic control, reduce total daily insulin dose and body weight, but also have potential cardiovascular and renal protective effects.Their side effects include diabetic ketoacidosis, hypoglycemia, urinary tract infection and genital infection. This paper reviewed the efficacy and safety of SGLT2 inhibitors.
