Objectives The aim of this study was to observe the influence of mirror therapy on lower-limb motor function, balance ability, ambulation ability and the s EMG signals in hemiplegic patients after stroke,so as to find a more effective treatment for hemiplegic patients with lower-limb disfunction. Methods 62 patients with hemiplegia after stroke were selected from Rehabilitation Department of North China University of Science and Technology Affiliated Hospital and Tangshan Worker Rehabilitation Hospital from September 2016 to August 2017.The patients were divided into the mirror group or the control group based on mini mization,31 cases in each group. Both groups accepted routine rehabilitation training, once a day,5 days a week, for 4 weeks;on this basis the mirror group accepted mirror therapy to train the non-paretic limb for 30 minutes per day,5 days a week, for 4 weeks. At baseline and after 4-week training, the lower-limb part of the Fugl-Meyer Assessment(FMA),the Functional Ambulation Category(FAC),the Berg Balance Scale(BBS)were used to respectively evaluate the patients' motor function of lower limb, the ambulation ability and the balance ability;and used s EMG to record the integrated electromyography(IEMG),root mean square value(RMS),maximum voluntary contraction force(MVC)of tibialis anterior, rectus femoris and biceps femoris recorded;use statistic software SPSS17.0 to compare all the indexes before and after treatment between two groups to observe the effect of mirror therapy. Results 1 Before treatment, there were no significant difference in FMA,FAC,BBS and IEMG,RMS,MVC of tibialis anterior, rectus femoris and biceps femoris between two groups(P>0.05).2 After training, the differences of FMA,FAC and IEMG,RMS,MVC of the three muscles in the mirror group were bigger than control group(P<0.05);although the change scores of BBS was bigger in mirror group but there was no significant difference between groups(P>0.05).Conclusions Mirror therapy can prominently improve lower-limb motor function, ambulation ability, enhance the activation and synchronization of motor units during tibialis anterior, rectus femoris and biceps femoris movements, increase the number and the total discharge of motor units participating in movements, and promote the muscle strength recovery, but its influence on balance ability did not show great advantage.
