Background: In recent 30 years, the study found that Progesterone(PROG)is not only a sex hormone, but also a neuroactive steroid with its own receptor in the central nervous system. It has a neuroprotective effect on nervous system diseases such as traumatic brain injury(TBI),cerebral apoplexy and so on.However,it is not clear whether PROG is related to the severity and prognosis of TBI patients. Objective: To discuss the correlation between the serum PROG level with the degree of injury?the prognosis and the CT score in TBI patients? Methods:The serum level of progesterone in 21 TBI patients was detected by chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay, and the correlation between progesterone and prognosis?CT score of TBI patients was detected by linear correlation analysis. Results: Serum progesterone levels in TBI patients was 2.94±3.19nmol/L.the PROG has no significant correlation with Marshall CT score(P >0.05),but showed a significant negative correlation with GCS,GOS(r=0.546?0.633,P<0.05?0.01).Conclusions:The preliminary study suggests that the level of serum PROG level may be negative correlation with the degree of damage and the prognosis in TBI patients, and the serum PROG levels at 24 hours after injury may predict the extent of injuries and the prognosis in patients with TBI.
