ObjectWith the development of science and technology and medical level, the diagnosis and evaluation of patients with disorder of consciousness are becoming more and more important. The traditional diagnosis gold standard is bedside CRS-R scores, but its disadvantage is that the accuracy of diagnosis is influenced by the doctor's personal experience and it is quite subjective. The application of neuroimaging techniques has made the evaluation of consciousness more intuitive and objective.PET imaging can not only observe the change characteristic of local brain glucose metabolism, but also can estimate the activity of brain cells. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of brain function in patients with consciousness disorders by using ROI and SPM.Methods60 patients were recruited from the hospital between January,2007 and September,2017,including VS?n=44?and MCS?n=16?,who had already grouped by clinical CRS-R scores. We also included 60 healthy controls with no history of neurological disorders. We acquired all PET data of the above two groups. And the patient group was compared with the control group by ROI and SPM.Results?1?ROI:Compared with MCS,the average of SUVmax in each brain area of the VS was lower than that of MCS.Respectively compared with the controls, the average of SUVmax in each brain regions of both VS and MCS was significantly lower than that in the controls.?2?SPM:Compared with MCS,glucose metabolism of PPC and precuneus of VS were significantly lower.Respectively compared with the controls, glucose metabolism of the brain regions of both VS and MCS were statistically lower than the controls. Moreover, the difference between VS and controls was more significant.Conclusion?1?Both the ROI method and the SPM method can be used for the analysis.Compared with the control group, brain glucose metabolism in each brain area is significantly reduced.?2?ROI method shows that glucose metabolism in each brain area of VS is lower than the one of MCS;SPM method shows that only the posterior parietal cortices and precuneus of VS are lower than the ones of MCS.And there is significantly statistical difference between them. The rest of the brain area are not significantly different.?3?18F-FDG PET imaging can observe the level of brain glucose metabolism, and react the functional condition of the damaged brain tissue.Compared with the traditional structural imaging,it has a more obvious advantage. Its scanning time is shorter than that of fMRI,and the patient is easier to adhere to the examination.?4?SPM analysis significantly improves the accuracy and purposiveness of the research. In previous studies, the researchers selected less brain areas and did not do specific SPM analysis according to all the brain regions included in the internal awareness network and external awareness network. In this study, each brain region covers by both internal and external awareness areas is individually analyzed, which is more comprehensive than previous studies.
