Objective:Previous studies suggested that pulmonary embolism(PE)is a venous system disease. There are different pathophysiological processes with cardiovascular artery disease. This study analysis the relationship between traditional cardiovascular risk factors and pulmonaryarteryembolism. To find out the common risk factors of pulmonary embolism and atherosclerosis, and to further demonstrate the common pathophysiological processes of them. Methods: A total of 535 patients with PE in our hospital cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment center, from January 2013 to September2016.Based on provoking factors, the patients were divided 2groups:unprovoked group,n=385 and provoked group,n=150.The risk factors were studied and compared between 2 groups. Results: The total number of PE patients treated was increasing each year.A total of unprovoked PE,age(61.2 + 13.6vs55.6 + 14.7,P<0.001);hypertension(34.5%vs22.7%,P=0.008);Smoking(3.5%vs18.7%,P=0.001),the difference was statistically significant.Diabetes and blood lipids level were significantly lower between two group. Most patients in the groups were combined with at least two kind of risk factors. However, more than 3 risk factors were combined, accounting for 15.07% in unprovoked group and39.33% in the provoked group. Two groups of patients were combined with atleast one traditional risk factor for cardiovascular disease, with ?2test(P <0.001).Conclusion: With the increase of risk factors in patients,PE is more likely to be formed when provoking events occur. There was a statistically significant difference between hypertension and smoking in the two groups, but the difference may be due to the difference in age between the two groups.
