ObjectiveTo explore the effect of color marking in the outpatients' visiting process in Department of Neurology in this study, through investigating the application status of color identification in neurological outpatient department in a grade A general hospital in Wuhan. This study analyzed the existing color identification, draw up and carry out a medical treatment intervention program(production of color routing map)which is convenient for neurology outpatients.Evaluate the effectiveness of intervention to verify the validity and feasibility of the color routing map,in order to alleviate patient confusion about consulting,to reduce the times of patients reentry,to shorten the patient visiting prosess,to reduce the workload of outpatient triage nurses,to provide outpatients more efficient and convenient treatment services and at last to provide reference for building a high-quality medical service system.MethodsThis research method includes two parts: investigation and intervention studies. The investigation research are conducted through the methods of literature analysis, observation and questionnaire. The intervention study is to divide the newly diagnosed outpatients in the neurology outpatient department of a grade A hospital in Wuhan into the control group and intervention group by convenience sampling method. On the basis of the previous observation results,we gave out the the color routing map to intervention group patients and discussed the effectiveness of the color routing map in the visiting process. The data were input through Excel, and then the data were analyzed by SPSS19.0 software. The statistical methods including statistical description and statistical inference, specially conclude:using the frequency, percentage, mean ± standard deviation(x± s)to describe the general data of patients. The two categories of data were compared using the chi-square test and two independent sample t-tests.Results(1)A total of 240 patients were enrolled in the study,120 in each of the control group and theintervention group. The results of Chi-square test showed that the general data of the two groups were statistically significant in terms of gender, age, occupation, household registration, monthly income, marital status, health insurance type,Degree and type of personality, the difference was not statistically significant(P> 0.05),the baseline was comparable.(2)After the implementation of color-marking intervention in the intervention group, the two groups of patients through the observation of the visiting process in the target section of the survey found that patients in the observation group average time-consuming shorter than the control group, and the average frequency of counseling ask is lower than the control Group, the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).(3)After the implementation of color-coded intervention in the observation group, the two groups of patients through the observation of the process of visiting the target section of the survey found that patients in the observation group average time-consuming shorter than the control group, and the average frequency of counseling ask is lower than the control group, the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).Conclusions:(1)Nearly half of neurology outpatient patients encounter difficulties of "enlightenment" during their visit. Therefore, hospitals should step up their efforts to guide patients on the route of treatment to save unnecessary visits time.(2)It is feasible to use color map in outpatient clinic, which can be popularized in clinic.Researchers had a brief communication with the intervention groups before issuing roadmap, that made the patients find visits destination in a relatively short time, the results turned to be helpful to guide patients efficiently,so the color map is a personalized guidance. In addition, patients in the observation group using the color roadmap were more satisfied. Therefore, the hospital outpatient departments can design suitable for their own departmental characteristics of the color logo to attract and guide patients to facilitate treatment.
