Objective To investigate the status of knowledge, attitude, and practice(KAP)of population regarding sever fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome(SFTS)in the endemic areas of Lu'an City,Anhui Province, and analyze the related factors that affecting the KAP level of population regarding SFTS in the endemic areas.Targeted intervention programme was developed based on the the findings of baseline survey and implemented in the endemic areas. The impact of the intervention programme was evaluated and the research results can be used to provide scientific basis for the prevention and control of SFTS in the future. Methods The baseline survey was conducted in the pre-intervention phase using a sample of 425 participants from the 12 villages which were selected by cluster sampling with the highest rates of endemic SFTS infection.Targeted intervention programme was developed according to the results of baseline survey and was conducted among the populations in endemic areas. The post-intervention survey was conducted after the intervention programme finished and the total KAP scores of baseline survey and post-intervention survey were compared to evaluate the impact of the intervention programme. Results The KAP level of population regarding SFTS in the endemic areas of Lu'an City,Anhui Province was relative low with an average score of(13.73±4.20)points before the intervention programme. There were no statistcally significant difference in the total KAP scores among respondents with different genders, ages, occupations, education levels, and outdoor work frequency(Ps>0.05).Statistically significant difference was found in attitude scores of respondents with different ages, occupations, and outdoor work frequency(Ps<0.05).The KAP level of the respondents increased significantly after the intervention programme, with an average score of(16.28±2.07)points(P<0.001).The report proportions of the correct knowledge, the positive attitude and the effective practice toward SFTS of respondents increased significantly after the intervention programme(Ps<0.05).Conclusions The KAP level of population regarding SFTS in the endemic areas of Lu'an City,Anhui Province was relative low before the intervention programme and increased significantly after the intervention programme. The relevant departments should continue to carry out the intervention programme with the purpose of controlling the prevalence of SFTS and reducing its incidence.
