Objective To evaluate the anatomy of left atrium and pulmonary veins with Siemens Somatom Definition Flash Dual-source Computed Tomography and to study the value of the imaging of LA and PV with Siemens Somatom Definition Flash Dual-source Computed Tomography in RFC A.Materials and methods 40 hospital patients with atrial fibrillation before RFCA and 40 persons with a regular coronary CT angiography without evidence of the heart disease retrospectively were enrolled in this study. All of them received the scan of Siemens Definition Flash Dual-source Computed Tomography. The anatomy of left atrium and pulmonary veins after reformation was observed by the post-treatment workstation.SPSS 19.0 Statistical Analysis Software was used for the statistical analysis. Results 1.The volume of LA was larger in patients with AF compare with the control group. The volume of LA in the best systole phase was larger than the best diastole phase.Compared with the control group,in patients with AF the area of LAA orifice was larger. The area of LAA orifice in the best systole phase was larger than the best diastole phase. The volume of LAA was larger in patients with AF than the control group. The volume of LAA in the best systole phase was larger than the best diastole phase. Moreover,Siemens Definition Flash dual-source computed tomography consisted with TEE in detecting the thrombus in LAA.In 40 patients with AF,there were 10 patients who presenting a close relationship between LSPV and LAA.Abnormal electrical activity was detected in 5 patients with clinic meaning in the RFC A.However,15 in 40 patents were found to exhibit a close relationship between LSPV and LAA.3 normal persons and 2 patients with atrial fibrillation were found with a vice atrial appendage. The vice atrial appendage with a similar shape to the first one is smaller than the first one and the location is nearby the LAA or at the other side of LA.2.In 40 cases of the normal group and 40 cases of the patients with AF there were both 10 cases detected with atypical PV.The area of PV orifice in the best systole phase was larger than that in the best diastole phase. There is statistical difference between the area of every two PV.There is also statistical difference in the area of PV between patients with AF and control group. In 15 patients who underwent RFCA with Carto and Ensite-Navx system in each group, most of the area of the PV orifice is between the value of the best systole phase and the best diastole phase. In 30 patients with RFCA,there were 3 patients with plumonary stenosis slightly after the RFCA,which was dectected with Siemens Definition Flash dual-source computed tomography. Conclusion Siemens Definition Flash dual-source computed tomography can provide a preoperative understanding of the complex anatomy of the pulmonary veins and LA.The images of CT data can integrate into Carto or EnSite-Navx system. Moreover, the plumonary stenosis after the RFCA can be detected, too. As a result,Siemens Definition Flash Dual-source Computed Tomography is important to the RFCA of the RF patients.
