Objective To explore the gender difference of brain function changes in patients with idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia(ITN).Methods 31 subjects(15 males and 16 females)with idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia and 33 pain-free controls(16 males and 17 females)were recruited for the study.There was no significant difference in age,education years or gender composition(p > 0.05)between the two subject groups.All subjects were subjected to T2 WI and FLAIR scanning in resting state,and the functional states were using blood oxygen level dependent(BOLD)the plane echo imaging(EPI)in resting state.DPARSF software was used to process the image,and the regional homogeneity(ReHo)of the whole brain was obtained from the primary trigeminal neuralgia group and the healthy control group,and the data were analyzed using SPM12 and SPSS13.0 software.Results 1.In control group,encephalic regions which the female's ReHo value was higher than the male's ReHo value(P < 0.005)are: right middle temporal gyrus,left middle temporal gyrus,right middle occipital gyrus,right superior occipital gyrus,left orbitalis middle frontal gyrus,left medial superior frontal gyrus,left medial orbitalis superior frontal gyrus,and which the male's ReHo value was higher than the female's ReHo value(P < 0.005)are: left inferior parietal lobule.2.In ITN group,encephalic regions which the female's ReHo value was higher than the male's ReHo value(P < 0.005)are: left precuneus,right precuneus,right inferior temporal gyrus,left cerebellar peduncle region 2,left thalamus,left caudate,right caudate,and which the male's ReHo value was higher than the female's ReHo value(P < 0.005)are: right superior frontal gyrus,left anterior cingulate,left precentral gyrus,right precentral gyrus,left central posterior gyrus,right central posterior gyrus.Conclusion The ReHo value of ITN subjects show sex difference in precuneus,left thalamus,right inferior temporal gyrus,caudate,left cerebellar peduncle region 2,right superior frontal gyrus,left anterior cingulate,central posterior.The different gender subjects show variability changes in brain function.
