Objective To investigate the relationship between memory impairment and the serum concentration of Tau protein in patients with mild to moderate traumatic brain injury(TBI).Methods The TBI patients were selected from the Department of Neurosurgery,First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University from Jun 2016 to Jun 2017,the patients were enrolled and admitted to the TBI group.According to scores of GCS when those patients came to the hospital, and they were being divided into two groups which were named as mild group and moderate group,30 cases in each group, and real-time monitoring of patients with changes in GCS score changes.ELISA was employed to check out the concentration of Serum Tau protein in patients and the neuropsychological test scales were used to evaluate the memory and cognitive characteristics of those TBI patients. At the same time,20 healthy volunteers were brought into the control group. The relationship between serum Tau protein and memory and cognitive characteristics in mild group, moderate group and control group were compared and analyzed. Results The results of ELISA showed that the serum level of Tau protein increased rapidly and peaked at 72 hours after TBI.At this time, the difference between moderate and mild groups was significant(P <0.05).And it gradually decreased to normal level after 3 months of TBI.Simultaneous neuropsychological test results showed that the TBI patients were accompanied with severer memory impairment in moderate group than in mild group within 2 weeks after TBI(P <0.05).At 72 hours after injury, the memory and cognition level was the lowest. Conclusions The serum Tau protein showed good sensitivity within acute phase in mild to moderate TBI patients early after injury, but does not fully reflect the severity of the patient's injury. The level of serum Tau protein in patients with TBI is correlated with the extent of memory impairment after TBI,which may be helpful in predicting the degree of memory impairment after TBI.It may provide a reference for the diagnosis of TBI patients and assessment of memory impairment.
