Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death around the world. The preventation and diagnosis of cardiovascular disease has been the number-one problem to be solved.Pulse wave contains much information on cardiovascular system and thus can be used to evaluate the cardiovascular status of human body and predict and diagnose diseases. As central aortic pulse wave(CAPW),unlike the peripheral pulse wave,is the pressure at the root of the ascending aorta,it can predict cardiovascular events and the damage of target organ more directly compared with the peripheral pulse waves, and thus is more clinicaly significant. However, aortic pulse wave cannot be non-invasively measured.Invasive measurement is harmful and expensive.Therefore,non-invasive estimation of CAPW is of great signicance. This thesis aims to propose a method to predict the CAPW based on linear system and brachial pulse wave. This thesis firstly demonstrated the background and significance of this project, described the significance of CAPW pathophysiologically and clinically and then overviewed the present situation of the project in detail.Chapter two demonstrated the structure of the cardiovascular system and its physiological parameters that reflects cardiovascular properties. Also described in chapter two was the fundamental theory of the arterial pulse, including pulse wave reflection, pulse wave features and influencing factors of the pulse wave.Chapter three firstly introduced the data acquisition and data pre-processing as a base of both chapter three and chapter four.A FIR model from the brachial artery to the aorta was built in this chapter.Chapter four created and evaluated an ARX model from the brachial to the aorta.Chapter five evaluated the FIR and ARX models created in the previous chapters.Further comparison between the methods used in this thesis and others' were also presented in this chapter.FIR and ARX model can both be used for modeling from the brachial to the aorta.Compared with the FIR model, the ARX model have a comparatively better performance in both predicting the pulse wave and calculating the feature points and characteristic parameters. Both of the two models can precisely predict the characteristic parameters such as systolic and diastolic blood pressures and so on.However, its precision of details should be improved.
