The purpose of this experiment was to explore effects of the compound Chinese herbal medicine preparations, mainly composed of Gynostemma pentaphyllum and Astragalus membranaceus,on reproductive performance, immune performance, antioxidant capacity, physiological and biochemical indexes of perinatal dairy cows, and to obtain an effective Chinese herbal feed additive for improving reproductive, immune and antioxidant capacity of dairy cows.In this study,18 Holstein cows with similar health, parity, body weight and body condition were randomly divided into three groups?control group,200 g/d group and 300 g/d group?with 6 cows in each group. The control group was fed with basic diet only, both 200 and 300 g/d group were the experimental ones.Since 14 days before birth, each cow was fed with 200 g and 300 g of Chinese herbal medicine preparation in the basic diet every day for 6days.The experimental period was 90 days, including 7 days of pre-feeding.The results showed that:1.Compound Chinese herbal medicine preparations can regulate the serum reproductive hormone contents in perinatal dairy cows.In this experiment, addition of compound Chinese herbal medicine preparations could help to increase the serum FSH,LH and E2 concentration of cows after delivery, the serum P4 concentration was reduced, all of these provided a good reproductive endocrine environment conducive to postpartum estrus of cows.In terms of postpartum diseases,in general, the control group had the most cases of dairy cows including, three diseases occurred?Retained placenta,Endometritis and Caked bag?,followed by the 200 g/d group, but the 300 g/d group had the least cases, only one case of endometritis, and the reduction of postpartum diseases was also conducive to the recovery of cows.Addition of the compound Chinese herbal medicines could also significantly shorten the days of pregnancy of dairy cows, shorten the days of first mating after delivery, reduce the consumption of feed and save the cost of feeding.2.There was no significant difference in serum TP and ALB levels among groups during the whole experiment?P>0.05?.On calving day,the GLB contents in the 300 g/d group were significantly higher than that in control group?P<0.05?.There was no significant difference in serum GLB content among the other experimental stages?P>0.05?.From the day of calving, the ratio of serum albumin of dairy cows in each group presented a downward trend, and the ratio of serum albumin both in the 200 g/d group and 300 g/d group were lower than that of control group, but the difference was not significant?P>0.05?.On the 7th day after delivery, the serum IgG levels in 200 g/d group and 300 g/d group were significantly higher than those in the control group?P<0.05?.At 14 and 21 days postpartum, the serum IgG levels of the 200 g/d group and 300 g/d group were higher than those of control group, but there was no significant difference?P>0.05?.From 7 days before delivery, the activity of antioxidant enzymes in sera of dairy cows were significantly increased, and the content of MDA in sera of dairy cows were significantly decreased. The serum antioxidant capacity of the 300 g/d group was the best.3.7 days before birth, the serum ALT activity of the 200 g/d group and 300 g/d group were extremely significantly lower than that of the control group?P<0.01?,and the serum CK activity of 200 g/d group and 300 g/d group was significantly lower than that of the control group?P<0.05?.On calving day,the AST activity in sera of the 300 g/d group was extremely significantly lower than that of the control group?P<0.01?,and significantly lower than that of 200 g/d group?P<0.05?,and the CK activity in sera of the 200 g/d group and 300 g/d group were extremely significantly lower than that of the control group?P<0.01?.There was no significant difference in serum ALP and LDH activity among all groups during the whole experiment.During the whole experiment, the BUN contents in sera of the 200 g/d group and300 g/d group were lower than that of the control group, but there was no significant difference?P>0.05?.The TC and TG content in sera of dairy cows in each group had no significant difference?P>0.05?.The T-BIL content in sera of dairy cows in each group were increased before delivery, which reached to the highest level on 0 d,decreased gradually after delivery, and there was no significant difference between the two groups?P>0.05?.4.The average birth weight of calves in 200 g/d group and 300 g/d group were slightly higher than that of calves in the control group, but the difference was not significant?P>0.05?.There was no significant difference in heart rate, respiratory rate and body temperature of calves in each experimental group?P>0.05?.In terms of blood indexes of calves, there was no significant difference in serum TP and ALB levels among the groups during the whole experiment?P>0.05?.At 3days of age,the serum GLB of 300 g/d group was significantly higher than that of the control group?P<0.05?,the serum IgG of 300 g/d group was extremely significantly higher than that of control group and 200 g/d group?P<0.01?,and the serum TG of300 g/d group was extremely significantly lower than that of the control group and200 g/d group?P<0.01?.At 7 days of age,the serum IgG of 300 g/d group was significantly higher than that of the control group and 200 g/d group?P<0.05?,and the serum TG of 300 g/d group was extremely significantly lower than that of the control group and 200 g/d group?P<0.01?.At 14 days of age,IgG in 300 g/d group was extremely significantly higher than that in the control group?P<0.01?,significantly higher than that in the 200 g/d group?P<0.05?,TC in the 300 g/d group was significantly lower than that in the control group and 200 g/d group?P<0.05?.At 21 days of age,TC in the 300 g/d group was extremely significantly lower than that in the control group and 200 g/d group?P<0.01?.At 28 days of age,TC in the300 g/d group was significantly lower than that in the control group?P<0.05?,TC in the 200 g/d group was lower than that in the control group, but there was no significant difference?P>0.05?.At 7,14 and 21 days,GLB contents in the 200 g/d group and 300 g/d group were higher than those in contents control group, but there was no significant difference?P>0.05?.5?Combined with all the experimental results, the optimum dosage of the compound Chinese herbal preparations in this study was 300 g/d.
