Red clay is mainly existed in south of China,it’s very common in engineering.But because of the environment in south of China,it’s hot and often raining,to trigger a series problem in engineering.In long-term stay in the extreme environment,red clay can be broken and cause damage of engineering.This paper use Guilin Yanshan’s red clay as the object,make use of soil mechanics and soil science to analyze the study which research on characteristics of strength under wetting and drying cycles of red clay laboratory experiment data,combined red clay’s micro structure to supplement the strength decay.This paper simulation an extreme environment,round-robin mode is take use of saturation to dry,temperature use the 70 ℃ and 105℃,there are the results:(1)Get some physical index of red clay,as for the specific gravity,liquid-plastic limit.(2)Obtained the result of compared the 70 ℃ and 105℃ with the red clay before the wet-dry circulation.(3)Obtained the stress-strain relationship at the 70 ℃ and 105℃ temperature under the circulation of wet-dry.And obtain the relationship between temperature and strength,circulation times and strength,confining pressure and strength.(4)Use the SEM picture to analyze the change of red clay’s structure.Through the result of test,combined the theory,obtain the results of research on characteristics of strength under wetting and drying cycles of red clay,these results are also same with the district which rainfall abundant,and temperature difference is huge.
