Cultivated land is one of important land resources and agricultural resources. The grain and other means of production that can meet the need of human survival all depend on cultivated land. The quality of cultivated land could not only directly affect grain security, but also play a decisive role in quality safety of farm produce and agricultural sustainable development.According to crop characteristics and regional environmental conditions, evaluating the soil suitability of cultivated land would not only beneficial to comprehensively master the using status of cultivated land resources, but also be helpful to timely adjustment of its exploitation direction, and the reasonable optimization, allocation and adjustment the planting structure, thus provide scientific basis for the management and utilization of cultivated land resource. In this study, two typical counties in the Chengdu Plain(Pengzhou County, represented by vegetables production;Jintang County, represented by fruits production)were selected as the study areas, the relevant graphic and literature materials of the two counties were collected, combines the natural conditions and environmental factors of Chengdu plain such as climate, topographyand soil, several evaluation indexes were also selected from the national cultivated land quality evaluation index system, and the soil suitability of cultivated land were evaluated by using analytic hierarchy process, then the development suggestions and measures on the regional planting industry were proposed. The main conclusions were as follows:(1)The cultivated land area suitable for vegetable planting in Pengzhou County was account for more than 70% of the total cultivated land area, among them the highly suitable area was account for 12.42%.The cultivated land area suitable for fruits planting in Jintang County was account for more than 50% of the total cultivated land area, among them the highly suitable area was account for 6.43%.(2)The unsuitability area for vegetables planting in Pengzhou County mostly in several towns such as Tongji town,Cifeng Town and Xinxing Town, etc. The main reasons were as follows: the soil in the area was white muddy soil and calcium amethyst bone soil that was distributed in the middle and upper part of the hillysloping land, thus exists problems such as impeded drainage, soil barrier layers and fertility deficiency,etc.(3)The unsuitability area for fruits planting in Jintang County mostly in several towns such as Yunhe town,Qixian Town and Sanxing Town, etc. The main reasons were as follows: higher topographic position, lower irrigation guarantee rate, shortage of water source and poor ability of holding water and fertilizer of soil.(4)The vegetable planting in Chengdu Plain would need to rational fertilization, improve soil physical and chemical character, improve soil fertility, strenthenthe water conservancy facility and improve irrigation and drainage system. The fruits planting would need to extend straw returning, combine using and nourishing, improve soil structure, increase soil organic matter content, rational rotation and exploresoil potential. The soil suitability evaluation of cultivated land would play an important role in protecting cultivated land, that not only could reflect the suitability degree of cultivated land for different land use or crop planting pattern, but also could reflect the restrictive factors that result in restricting land use. Thus would provide important scientific supply for the implementation of farmland protection system, and improve the production capacity of cultivated land in the Chengdu Plain,at the same time,it would provide a reference for the reform of the supply side of agriculture.
