The subtropical region have an abundant rainfall and suitable temperature for the growth of plants, possessing an unique natural vegetation landscape in the world.Wuyi mountain is located in the southeastern area of china, save a large number of primary forest vegetation comparing with the world in the same latitude. However, the functional traits of subtropical plants research is still lacking, especially for bamboos developing in China. This study takes Wuyi mountain's unique plant communities in different types of bamboo as the objection, included Phyllostachys edulis,Oligostachyum oedogonatum,Indocalamus tessellatus,Yushania hirticaulis,Yushania wuyishanensis,to analysis the functional traits of bamboo leaves, branches, stems in different elevations and growth stages.further to explore the strategies of life history for bamboo plants.Meanwhile, providing a reference for clarified the adaptation mechanism of bamboo growing in different habitats and different stages. The main results were as follows:(1)The numerical values of the scaling exponents governing the relationship between leaf area and dry mass for bamboos were significantly less than 1.0.The numerical values of the scaling exponents were unaffected by variation in light conditions, and elevation.(2)The bamboos leaf size was obviously negative correlated with leafing intensity, with a common slope of-1.12.The relationship between twig—leaf size was not hold constant.(3)The difference of photosynthetic saturation point and compensation point of bamboo leaves caused by the different light conditions. The net photosynthetic rate and dark respiration rate of unshaded Phyllostachys edulis and Yushania wuyishanensis on shooting period and growth period were significantly higher than those of other shaded bamboo leaves(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the photosynthetic rate of bamboo in different elevations(P>0.05).(4)There was a significant difference in total non-structural carbohydrate content among the different bamboo species(P<0.05).(5)The contents of C,N and P in leaves, branches and stem of bamboos varied during different growth periods. The limitation nutrient is content of P,N and P,N,respectively for leaves, twig and stem.(6)The re-absorption efficiency that included about elements of N,P are all increased by 5%and 12%,respective from bamboo shooting to growing. There have trade-off about acquirement and conservatism strategies among the leaf, twig and stem's functional traits.Soil nutrients have 60.63%,65.39%explanatory validity to the variation of leaf functional characteristics, respectively at shooting and growth period. In conclusions, there are significant differences among the strategies of life history in bamboo species, and the variations among the functional characteristics are closely related to the different growth stages and habitats.
