Cotton is one of the most important commercial and strategical material in China.However,with the accelerating process of industrialization in our country,the cotton farmers are gradually decreasing,thus the planting areas of cotton reduce gradually.To solve the problem of shortage of labor,the key is to develop and improve the level of mechanization in the process of cotton production.Reasonable plant architecture is not only the key to the mechanized harvesting,but also the reasonable planting density and increasing production.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the length of the cotton fruiting branch internode.In this research,Zhong2549?long branch internode?and Zhong5081?short branch internode?were used to detect the endogenous hormones of the fruiting branch internode.Moreover,the effects of exogenous hormones?GA3,IAA and ABA?on the length of internode were also studied.In addition,the mepiquat-chlorides,TIBA and sodium wolframate which are the inhibitors of GA3,IAA and ABA also spraying on the two materials.The paraffin section technique was used to detect the cell morphology of the fruiting branch internode of two materials.The results showed that the content of endogenous hormones GA3,IAA and ABA in Zhong2549 were4.13 times,6 times and 2.63 times as much as in Zhong5081,respectively.Spraying exogenous hormones GA3,IAA and ABA could promote the fruiting branch internode elongation,the lengths could be increased by 11.45%,10.15%and 52.74%,respectively.The result of paraffin section showed that the cell size of Zhong2549 was bigger than Zhong5081,and the cell density of Zhong2549 was less than Zhong5081.The mepiquat-chlorides and TIBA which are the inhibitor of GA3 and IAA can significantly decrease the length of fruiting branch internode,the lengths can be decreased by 16.60%and 20.63%respectively.However,the sodium wolframate treatment had little effect on cotton fruiting branch internode length.Thus the results showed that GA3 and IAA could have more influence on the cotton fruiting branch internode lengths.This study found the key endogenous hormones which affect the fruiting branch internode lengths and the discrepancy of different fruiting branch internode lengths in cellular level.This study provides a theoretical basis for cotton plant architecture breeding and has some guiding significance for the cotton harvest production.
