Carrot has high nutritional value and good economic benefits,and is one of the indispensable vegetables in people's lives.At present,the market is mainly dominated by large varieties,so it is particularly important to introduce small fresh-eating carrot varieties.Therefore,this experiment introduced 12 fresh-eating carrot varieties from abroad,studied their growth characteristics and nutritional quality,and compared the appearance quality of the seven varieties and the separation of the offspring of the five varieties.Finally,the experiment selected the ‘Baby carrot' with good quality and suitable for local cultivation by comprehensive analyzing a number of indicators,which lay a foundation for selection of carrot varieties and formation of new vegetable processing industry in the future.The results of the study are as follows:1)The growth cycle of each variety was investigated and found to be 85?99 days.Comparing the above-ground growth of various varieties,it was found that the varieties ‘B835' and ‘B862' were more prosperous and superior to other varieties.As to the yield,the variety ‘little finger' was as high as 4,953.46 kg/666.7 m(17),which was significantly higher than other varieties.Comparing the appearance quality of the seven varieties,it was found that the average root length of the variety ‘B815' was the longest with 30.91 cm in length,and the appearance of the seven varieties was relatively uniform.The root type of 'P1129' belongs to the long conical shape,while the root types of ‘B826',‘B815',‘B862',‘B835' and ‘B841' are slender.2)Comparing the nutrient content of each variety,the water content was between 87%?91%;the variety ‘B815' had the highest VC content with 12.15 mg/100 g?FW;the variety ‘P1129' had the highest soluble sugar content with 8.51 g/100 g?FW;the variety ‘B862' had the highest protein content of 0.37 g/100 g?FW;the variety ‘P1129' had the highest acidity of 0.49%.3)In the study of the offspring of the five varieties,the coefficient of variation of root length and root thickness of the cultivar ‘little finger' were the smallest,9.07% and 11.12%,respectively.And the root shape is relatively uniform and meets the processing requirements of the ‘baby carrot'.4)Through the research on the processing technology of the ‘Baby carrot',it is found that carrots can basically be processed into the ‘Baby carrot' products to achieve the expected effect of the experiment after being cleaned,peeled,cut,disinfected and packaged.
