The aim of this thesis was to investigate the effects of vitamin E-riched transgenic maize on production performance, biochemical parameters, immune and antioxidant functions of broilers aged 1to 42 days, and the transport and metabolism of?-tocopherol derived from vitamin E-riched transgenic maize in broilers. The nutritional effects of vitamin E derived from vitamin E-riched transgenic maize was evaluated by comparing with the Non-genetically modified?Non-GM?maize addition of exogenous DL-?-tocopherol acetate additive, providing technical support for its practical use.A total of 360 Ross 308 male broilers aged 1-day were randomly divided into 3 groups with 6replicates and 20 broilers in per replicate. The study period was 42 days.Diet of Negative control group?NC?was prepared with Non-GM maize without exogenous vitamin E and the vitamin E level of diets during 1 to 21 d and 22 to 42 d were 4.38 and 4.63 IU/kg,respectively;Diet of Positive control group?PC?was prepared with Non-GM maize added DL-?-tocopherol acetate additive and the vitamin E level of diets during 1 to 21 d and 22 to 42 d were 14.11 and 14.91 IU/kg,respectively;Diet of vitamin E-riched transgenic maize group?VE-riched group,VER?was prepared with vitamin E-riched transgenic maize and the vitamin E level of diets during 1 to 21 d and 22 to 42 d were 14.11 and 14.91IU/kg,respectively;The results showed as follows:?1?Except for average daily feed intake of 1 to 21 d in the VER group was significantly lower than that of the NC group?P<0.05?,there was no significant difference in other production performance parameters among the three groups during the experiment?P>0.05?;?2?On the 21st day,the serum alanine aminotransferase of the VER group was not significantly different from the PC group?P>0.05?,but significantly lower than that of the NC group?P<0.05?;Although the content of liver triglyceride of the VER group was lower than that of the NC group, there was no significant difference?P>0.05?,and both of these two groups were significantly higher than that of the PC group?P<0.05?;On the 42nd day, there was no significant difference in the liver triglyceride content between VER group and PC group?P>0.05?,and both of these two groups were significantly lower than that of the NC group?P<0.05?;?3?Compared with the PC group, the liver I?B-?protein of 21 d and 42d in the VER group were significantly increased?P<0.05?while the liver NF-?B p65 protein of 21 d was significantly decreased?P<0.05?,and the rest indicators had no significant difference?P>0.05?;Compared with the NC group, the content of I?B-?protein in liver of VER group and PC group was significantly increased on 21 d and 42 d?P<0.05?,and all other indicators were significantly decreased?P<0.05? except for the liver NF-?B p65 protein content and serum PGE2 of 42 d;?4?Compared with the PC group, the serum oxidized glutathione and glutathione peroxidase of 42d in the VER group were significantly decreased?P<0.05?,and there were no significant differences in other indicators of serum antioxidant function?P>0.05?;The serum malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide were significantly decreased in the VER group and the PC group compared with the NC group?P<0.05?,and the indicators of serum antioxidant function were significantly increased ?P<0.05?except for serum glutathione and superoxide dismutase of 42 d;Compared with the PC group, there were no significant differences in the indicators of liver antioxidant function in the VER group?P>0.05?;The malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide in liver of both the VER group and the PC group significantly decreased while other indicators were significantly increased compared to the NC group on 21 d?P<0.05?;Compared with the NC group, the liver malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide of the VER group were decreased and the rest indicators of VER group were increased on 42 d,however, there was no significant difference?P>0.05?;?5?Compared to the PC group, there was no significant difference both in serum?-tocopherol and ?-tocopherylquinone on 21 d and liver CYP450 enzyme and serum?-tocopherylquinone on 42d in the VER group?P>0.05?,while other indicators were significantly increased?P<0.05?;Compared to the NC group,liver?-TTP and serum?-tocopherol on 21 d and liver?-TTP,serum?-tocopherol and?-tocopherylquinone on 42 d in the VER group and PC group were significantly increased ?P<0.05?.In summary, the both vitamin E-riched transgenic maize and Non-GM maize addition of exogenous DL-?-tocopherol acetate additive showed similar effects on the test broilers, indicating that?-tocopherol in vitamin E-riched transgenic maize was effective to exert its biological activity.
