There are 51 oak species distributed widely in China, which are very important forest resources of China. The deciduous oak forest is the important component of temperate deciduous broad-leaved forest in northern China. To study vein characteristics of 6 oak species in northern China, the vein characteristics of Quercus serrata var.brevipetiolata,Q.var.acuteserrata,Q.mongolica,Q.wutaishanica,Q.variabilis and Q.acutissima were extracted and clustered by Hierarchical Cluster Analysis. The vein characteristics of Q.serrata var.brevipetiolata,Q.var.acuteserrata,Q.variabilis and Q.acutissima in Baotianman Natural Reserve were extracted and one-way anova and multiple comparison were used to analyze the vein characteristics. The results are as follows:(1)The clustering analysis revealed that the vein characteristics of 6 oak species in northern China is similar to the distribution of them.It shows that there is gene flow of 6 oak species among species or populations in a certain geographical scope in northern China. The great influence of geographical isolation due to Yellow River and Luliang Moutain may lead to that the gene flow of 6 oak species is only in a certain geographical scope in northern China.(2)The capacity for adapting to the cold and drought environment of Q.var.acuteserrata,Q.variabilis and Q.acutissima is stronger because of the higher vein density. The ability of transport of Q.var.acuteserrata and Q.acutissima is stronger, because their vein distance, mean 2D area, mean 3D area and mean volume of areole are relatively smaller and the vein density and areole density are higher.Higher vein density and areole density of Q.var.acuteserrata,Q.variabilis and Q.acutissima improve the abilities of supporting and resisting damage from exterior environment of leaves. These results indicate that vein characteristics is very important to the environmental adaptability of oak species.
