The Seriphidiun semidesert grassland with its abundant community species mainly as spring and autumn grazing grassland in the northern Xinjiang region,Seriphidiun semidesert plants have evolved many survival strategies in the long term adaptation to environment,among them the most significant variation is seed mass and shape change.To study the variation of plants seed mass and shape of Seriphidiun semidesert can reveal the renewal and succession trend of this kind of grassland.Endozoochory of grazing livestock are regarded as major vector for grassland plants of long distance dispersal,which can determining the species composition of plant communities and the spatial structure of landscape.To study the Seriphidiun semidesert plants seed characteristics responses to the endozoochorous of grazing livestock would not only deeply reveal the interaction mechanism between plants and livestock,but also provide reference for grazing management in northern xinjiang region.Objective: To understand morphological characteristics and ecological functions of plant seeds in Seriphidiun semidesert areas,from the perspective of vegetation restoration potential to discussion the ecological adaptation strategies of plants to special habitats,and revealed the responses of different community species plant seeds to sheep ruminal digestion.Methods: Through the Phylogenetic analysis to study the seed size and shape variations,through the Rumen fistula nylon bag method and phased total collection fecal method to discussion the reaction of five different community plants(Poaceae 28 species,Leguminosae 15 species,Chenopodiaceae 4species,Mucus seeds 6 species and Forbs seeds 15 species)seed(totally 68 kinds)to the sheep rumen digestion.Results: The results of Phylogenetic analysis showed that there was no obvious Phylogenetic signal of seed size means there was a certain variable heterosexual.Seed sheep has obvious Phylogenetic signals which means its was strong stability.Most of the 68 plants seeds can produce survival strategies to adapt for Seriphidiun semidesert climate and grazing pressure.Rumen digestion and stage total feces collection experiment results showed that the reaction of different group seeds to sheep rumen digestion has homosexuality,such as the color of seed coat was deepened,seed surface texture was indistinct and the subsidiary structure was destroyed;seed characteristics(Length,width and height)and single seed mass were gradually decreased with prolonged digestion time;Seed germination behavior was different after sheep rumen digestion: Gramineae seeds and mucilaginous seeds germination rate decreased significantly after through the digestive tract(P<0.05);digestion effect can break Leguminosae seed dormancy and significantly increased germination rate(P<0.05);Chenopodiaceae seed has heteromorphism phenomenon,seed produced by one plant shows homosexuality after digestion by sheep rumen;forb seeds germination rate varies after digestion by sheep rumen.Conclusion: Most of seeds had very strong adaptability to the extreme environment by the strategies of seed heteromorphism,mucilaginous diaspore,appendages for seed dispersal and special life form,and different group plant seeds all can dispersal through sheep digestive tract,which increased the seed dispersal pathway,and it was a way of living strategy of plants to adapt to the harsh and changeable desert environment.
