Chromolaena odorata is recognized worldwide as a perennial invasive weed.It is native to Central and South America and has spread to most tropical and subtropical regions of Africa,Asia,Oceania, and the Western Pacific Islands, seriously threatening the invading areas. The invasion of Chromolaena odorata threats the growth, biodiversity and ecological security of native plants.Due to its rapid spread,it was greatly harm to agriculture, forestry, and animal husbandry. It has aroused widespread concern. On the basis of comprehensively reviewing the literature and field investigation on C.odorata, this paper summarized and mapped the invasion routes of C.odorata in the world and in China, analysed the distribution pattern of C.odorata in China, the community characteristics of C.odorata, and summarized the causes and routine prevention and control methods of C.odorata.According to the invasion situation of C.odorata,a series of prevention and control strategy was proposed, including the development of comprehensive prevention and control technologies for C.odorata with different degrees of hazards, development of treatment measures for different suitable habitats, establishment of regional isolation and quarantine programs, and establishment of the invasive alien species assessment system. Moreover, this paper put forward some suggestions for the future study, which includes: to establish a system for predicting the distribution of C.odorata in invasive plants in southern China through investigations,to further research and develop the pathways of C.odorata utilization, and to conduct risk assessment of environmental, social, and economic impacts of C.odorata, and also the potential, yet unexposed, ecological risks.
