The Grain for Green Project in Gansu Province is an important part of China's Grain for Green Project,plays the eco-efficiency of sand-fixing,preventing soil erosion and restoring,species diversity increasing in the region.while its forest ecosystem carbon storage and sequestration potential is also needed to science study.Accurate estimating the Grain for Green Project in Gansu Province carbon sequestration and its potential,will provide reference for China's large-scale regional forest ecosystem carbon cycle balance,while providing carbon-based data to support effective international compliance for our negotiations.In this paper,seven major vegetation types of the Grain for Green Project in Gansu Province Robiniapseudoacacia,Pinustabulaeformis,Armeniacasibirica,Platycladusorientalis,Hippophaerhamn oides,Caraganakorshinskii,Alfalfapastures were taken as the study,which were studied the carbon content of different components,carbon density,carbon storage in tree layer,shrub layer,herb layer,litter and soil layer.and three different climate zones including the arid region,semiarid and semi humid region,humid region forest ecosystem carbon density,carbon storage,carbon rate and carbon potential were studied.We got the results of the carbon sequestration,the rate of carbon sequestration and carbon sequestration potential of the Grain for Green Project in Gansu Province in 1999-2010.and has made some progress in the followed as.(1)The major tree species of larger land of Gansu province,which mainly in Robiniapseudoacacia,Armeniacasibirica,Larix gmelinii.Armeniaca vulgaris,Pinustabulaeformis,Populus L,Platycladus orien talis,Hippophaerhamn oides,Caraganakorshinskii,Alfalfapastures,Elymus dahuricus Turcz.The major city were in Qin yang(15.62%),Ping liang(15.04%),Long nan(12.68%),Ding xi(12.59%),Tian shui(11.87%),Bai yin(7.75%),and which was totally 75.58%of Gansu province.The Grain for Green Project in Gansu Province was in the middle and east area,namely semi arid and semi humid region.(2)Dry combustion method were used to measure the carbon content of seven major vegetation types of the Grain for Green Project in Gansu Province including tree layer(stem,branch,leaf,root,bark,cone),understory vegetation(shrub stem,shrub leaf,shrub root,grass aboveground,grass beloweground,litter),soil layer(0-10cm,10-20cm,20-30cm,30-50cm,50-100cm).The average carbon content(43.48%)has no different with the ages increased,but different among different vegetation types.The average carbon content of different vegetation types in the order as:Pinustabulaeformis(51.34%)>Platycladusorientalis(48.52%)>Robiniapseudoacacia(46.86%)>Caraganakorshinskii(44.72%)>Armeniacasibirica(42.94%)>Hippophaerhamnoides(42.74%)>Alfalfapastures(39.12%);The average carbon content of different modes in the order as:tree(47.81%)>shrub(43.52%)>herb(39.12%).The average carbon content(0.40%)of soil layer increased with conversion age but gradually decreased with the increase of soil depth,which different among different vegetation types in the order as:Hippophaerhamnoides(0.46%)>Alfalfapastures(0.41%)>Robiniapseudoacacia(0.40%)>Caraganakorshinskii(0.40%)>Pinustabulaeformis(0.39%)>Platycladusorientalis(0.38%)>Armeniacasibirica(0.37%).(3)The ecological carbon density of seven vegetation types layer increased with conversion age,and the average carbon density was 51.12 t · hm-2,which followed in the order as:Robiniapseudoacacia(63.50t · hm-2)>Armeniacasibirica(55.02t · hm-2)>Hippophaerhamnoides(53.89t · hm-2)>Pinustabulaeformis(52.91t ·hm-2)>Platycladusorientalis(47.37t ·hm-2)>Alfalfapastures(43.83t ·hm-2)>Caraganakorshinskii(41.35t · hm-2).The average carbon density of different modes in the order as:tree(54.70t · hm-2)>shrub(47.62t ·hm-2)>herb(43.82t· hm-2).(4)The carbon storage of the Grain for Green Project in Gansu Province in 1999-2010 of semi arid and semi humid region 72,476,200 tons.Vegetation layer got 20.14%of the total carbon storage,which was 14595900 tons.Soil carbon storage layer got 79.86%of the total carbon storage,which was 57880200 tons.Annual carbon storage in vegetation layer representing the proportion of total carbon storage increased with conversion age,and annual carbon storage insoil layer representing the proportion of total carbon storage decreased with conversion age.(5)There are difference in carbon density and annual carbon sequestration rate of the Grain for Green Project in Gansu Province in 1999-2010.The carbon density was 52.07t·hm-2 per unit area,which biomass carbon density 10.49 t·hm-2,and soil carbon density 41.58 t · hm-2;The unit area annual carbon sequestration rate was 4.34 t/hm2/a,which biomass 0.87 t/hm2/a,and soil 3.47 t/hm2/a;The annual carbon sequestration rate was 6039700 t/a,which biomass 1216300 t/a,and soil 4823400 tons/a.The carbon sequestration potential of the Grain for Green Project in Gansu Province in 2030 were 193269600 tons in the future.(6)From the carbon density of major ecological system spatial distribution and the carbon storage of different climatic region spatial heterogenity of the Grain for Green Project in Gansu Province,we find that it is the major way to increase carbon function to management by artificial forest vegetation types of the Grain for Green Project in Gansu Province...
