Reinforced earth,as a new kind of geotechnical material,has come into sight 50 years ago.Reinforced earth structures employ good attraction in engineering fields because of its excellent mechanical and economical properties.However,study on reinforcement mechanism of reinforced earth has been controversial.Internal deformation patterns of reinforced slopes and retaining walls vary from study to study.This paper looks at reinforced slopes,and a series of experiment has been conducted.Layered settlement of reinforced slope and retaining wall in an airport is observed using the sensor groups.After that,finite element analysis is done to refer to the internal deformation of reinforced earth slopes.The newly proposed creep deformation computation method for high filled embankments is discussed in terms of reliability and convenience using the settlement data.The major work of this paper is as follows:(1)Fiber grating displacement sensors are used in a reinforced retaining wall in the fifth section of Chengde airport to observe vertical deformation patterns.The experiment shows that adaptability and exactness of layered settlement of filled earth bodies can be achieved through reasonable combination of sensors and mechanical components.Also,deformation patterns of reinforced earth layers and non-reinforced earth layers are compared.(2)Finite element analysis is conducted using FORTRAN based program Feadam84 to simulate the construction process of reinforced earth slope in Chengde airport.(3)9 different empirical formula as well as the newly proposed practical creep deformation computation method for high filled embankments proposed by the author are compared in terms of computing the settlement after the completing of high filled embankments.Using the ground creep settlement data of Chengde airport,the parameter of different computation models are derived,and creep settlement forecast in a period of time after completion is calculated based on different models.The results are compared and analyzed afterwards.
