Academic conference is one of the important ways of knowledge exchange, and time cost is an important factor affecting scholars to consider whether to participate or not.The focus of this paper is whether the rapid development of high-speed railway in our country can reduce the traffic time distance of cities along the line,to a certain extent, reduce the restriction of geographical distance on scholars' participation in academic conferences, improve the enthusiasm of scholars to participate in them, and then enhance the possibility of holding national academic conferences in cities along the line, thus promoting knowledge exchange.Based on the existing research, this paper puts forward three hypotheses about the relationship between the development of high-speed railway and the national academic conference,namely,H1: Because of the significant space-time compression effect, the development of high-speed railway promotes the holding of national academic conference in cities along the line,H2: With the development of high-speed railway network,high-speed railway promotes the holding of national academic conference in "network high-speed railway city" and H3: Because of the lack of network effect, the promotion of high-speed railway to the national academic conference of "corridor-type high-speed railway city" is not obvious. Then, using relevant panel data of 284 prefecture-level cities and above in 2006-2016,establish a measurement model to verify the hypotheses.Taking into account the different high-speed rail conditions in the high-speed rail cities and the network effects caused by the high-speed rail network, three kinds of samples of the full sample,"network-type high-speed rail city" and "corridor-type high-speed rail city" and three high-speed rail factor indicators of 0-1 value, railway time distance and the frequency of Electric Multiple Units(EMU)are used to regressed respectively, trying to explain the impact of the high-speed rail on the cities to hold national academic conferences, thus reflecting the impact on knowledge exchange. The results show that for the whole sample, the results are significant only at the 0-1 value;for the "network high-speed rail city",the three core variables are significant;for the "corridor high-speed rail city",the three core variables are not significant.Which means that, firstly, only when the high-speed rail reaches a certain level, the high-speed rail can promote the cities along the line to hold the national academic conferences.Secondly, with the development of high-speed railway network, the high-speed rail promotes the "network-type high-speed rail city" to hold the national academic conferences;Thirdly, due to the lack of network effects, the high-speed rail has not promoted the national academic conferences held by the "corridor-style high-speed rail city",and responded to the three hypotheses proposed in the previous chapter. It can be foreseen that with the gradual improvement of the high-speed rail network, the role of high-speed rail in promoting knowledge exchange in China will continue to be enhanced, which will have a significant impact on the production, sharing and innovation of knowledge. In addition, the distinction difference within the corridor and network-style traffic conditions should be paid more attention when analyzing traffic effects.Network traffic can produce effect as the form of "1 + 1> 2",so should focus on optimizing high-speed rail network and EMU layout,in order to fully release the network effect of high-speed rail.
