| Xi’an Ming District has an extremely important position in the Xi’an urban construction history, and profoundly affects the spatial layout and development model in the future.Historical and cultural streets are important carriers of showing the cultural context and telling historical stories. They are an important part of Xi’an historical and cultural city. Its spatial characteristics express the unique historical connotation and value of Xi’an.Under the background of the changing times, there are serval problems in the streets space.the number of streets in Ming District has been significantly reduced, the spatial characteristics are not obvious, and the continuity of historical space is insufficient. The research on the streets in Ming District mainly focuses on the study of modern blocks or is a part of the urban study of Xi’an history. However,it is rare to separately describe the changes in the development of streets, and to carry out specific research with today’s streets. Therefore, from the perspective of historical geography and planning,it is particularly important to study the rational protection and utilization of street space in Ming District.Through literature combing, graphic analysis, type induction, comparison, space syntax and other technical methods, the analysis will sort out the number of streets, functions and morphological structures to clarify every street space changes in Xi’an Ming District. Then, the research will explore the correlation between street space and residential space, commercial space and cultural space in Ming District. On the basis of studying the changes and relation characteristics of the streets, the motivations of the street spatial changes in different periods and the mechanism of the street spatial changes are summarized. In the end,the paper puts forward the streets to be protected and proposes the strategy of street space protection in view of the practical problems. The strategy aims to improve the pertinence, scientific nature and feasibility of the protection of historical and cultural heritage, and finally realize the revival of the historical and cultural connotations of the streets in Ming District. The core conclusions of this thesis are as follows: Firstly, from the main characteristics of the streets in Ming District, the number of streets is significantly reduced, and the overall spatial structure remains stable, but the characteristics of the street changes in different Ming areas are different. The traffic function presents the changing characteristics from “people, horses mixed”,“people and vehicles mixed” to “human and car branches”.The commercial function of the street is developed from a two-dimensional "axial belt" to a three-dimensional "clump" shape. The cultural functions of the streets are diversified.Although some cultural spaces have disappeared, their street patterns and names have not changed.Secondly, from the related characteristics of the streets in Ming District, the street space and the living space, cultural space and commercial space present various characteristics. In the living space, the Hui community presents the characteristics of living around the temple, the Han community presents the characteristics of the branches and streets that rely on the school, and the Man city presents the spatial characteristics of living around the temple. In the commercial space, the change of business function often leads to the change of street shape, but in the traditional commercial transaction form represented by “temple fair”,the street space continues and is stable. In the cultural space, the religious cultural space is located in the depth of the street with low integration. The cultural and educational culture space is relatively balanced and located in the streets with relatively convenient traffic. The communication culture space is often at the end of the street, showing symmetry shape.Thirdly, according to the analysis of its own characteristics and the analysis of related features, the motivations of the changes in the street space of Ming District in different periods are summarized, and the fundamental power, planning power and fixed force of the change of street are obtained. Finally,in view of the practical problems existing in the streets of MingDistrict, this paper summarizes the streets that need to be protected and proposes protection strategies. |
