The Study Of Green Space Dog-walking Area Design In Dongguan

With rapid urbanization and transition of society structure system,public parks,as main recreation places for citizens,are improving and developing in order to meet recreation requirements of citizens.At the same time,the functions of public parks are diversified.Dog-walking parks,as main places of fulfilling the demand of walking dogs,obtain great development in Europe and America,while in China the development is relatively lagging behind.Base on the limited area of public parks in first and second tier cities of China,these cities don't have conditions for constructing specialized dog-walking parks.In order to serve citizens'need of dog walking,it is a main way to set up unspecialized dog-walking areas by designing zones and providing facilities for walking dogs in existing public parks.In order to research dog-walking activities and dog-walking areas better,this paper conducts field researches of dog-waking areas in HongKong and Shenzhen,and uses for reference the experiences of dog-walking area establishment and management.Furthermore,this paper uses the methods of questionnaire,conversation and observing in public parks in Dongguan in order to comprehend usage needs,attitudes towards dog-walking areas and problems needs to be solved,from the perspective of dog owners and other users of parks.The paper discusses optimizing strategies and design of dog-walking areas from three aspects:overall planning,facility design and plant design.In aspect of overall planning,dog-walking area designs are based on field researches,which takes into full consideration the needs of dog owners and the influence of non-dog owners.The research shows that the diagonal of dog-walking areas should be no shorter than 50 meters and area should be bigger than 1300 m~2.If area permitted,dog-walking areas should include passageways,social areas,washing areas,small dog activity areas and training areas.In aspect of facility design,it is suggested that the height of isolation facilities should be between 1.2 meters to 1.5 meters and the chairs should be designed with holders of water and leash hooks.And the passageways should adopt double-room design.In contrast with dog lavatory,feces box and tissues are more useful to solve dog defecation issue.Dog training and activity facilities should be flexible in order to meet difference requirement of various dogs.And the signs and promotion facilities should blend with dog elements.In aspect of plant design,it would be better to create flat and open lawns.Through studying the design of dog-walking areas,this paper provides preliminary scientific basis and suggestions for planning and construction of dog-walking areas in Dongguan.By setting up better dog-walking areas in public parks,it is helpful to meet the needs of dog walking,to propagandize and standardize the correct ways of walking dogs,to resolve social problems emerging with dog-walking activities.Meanwhile,it embodies the people-oriented design concept and usage of animal elements in landscapes.
