Ultrasonic nondestructive testing is one of those significant techniques of nondestructive testing,and transducers,as a key component of the of Ultrasonic testing,the acoustic field characteristics of which has great influence on the defect detectability and defect assessment.So it is valuable to study the acoustic field characteristics of transducers.Based on researches of acoustic field characteristics at home and abroad,this paper explores the acoustic field characteristics of transducers on the basis of a manipulator.This research probes the methods of both computation and measurement,and an automatic testing system based on manipulator is developed to test acoustic field characteristics of transducers of different types or frequencies.This paper proposes a new method,based on the manipulator hydrophone,to detect the acoustic field and develops a quick and accurate detective system of transducers' acoustic field characteristics.The new method is capable of detecting,visualizing and measuring out the parameters of acoustic characteristics,and the test report will be automatically generated.After the overall system solution is determined,hardware system are designed and built,which provides the basis for this paper to code the software system that capable of automatically detecting transducers' acoustic field characteristics in Visual Studio on the Windows platform.The software system integrates DAS module,acoustic field scanning module and post analysis module implementing data acquisition and analysis,control of the manipulator,acoustic scanning,visualization,computation of characteristic parameters and automatic generation detect report.Last but not the least,a large number of various types and frequencies experiments are conducted and the results are compared with the theoretical results to verify the functionality of the system.Experiments results verify that this system could be used to conduct a comprehensive detection of the transducers' acoustic field characteristics,the detection accuracy satisfies functional requirements,and that the system has a good stability,reliability and prospect.
