“One Belt One Road” project is one of the most significant transportation projects that have conducted during recent years, which aimed to connect Asia with Europe.Although different transportation models are planning to use in this model,main-60% of all logistic activities have designed with a railway. So,railway transport is one of the most crucial transportation models that have a direct impact on the logistic system in any delivering items where the cost and time are the core variables. This thesis aims to investigate the concept of optimal route selection in the “One Belt One Road” project while focusing on railway systems. The optimization of the railway system not only saves costs but also increases the supply of goods from one place to another. Most importantly, through the research, emphasis will be put up on the successful building of optimized and efficient practices that have been adopted in the previous case studies and different models. Then the study analyzes different routes through different countries(China,Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan)while comparing their advantages and disadvantages, tries to explore the shortest path modeling and applying them to the “One Belt One Road” case.Based on the findings of the investigation, this thesis will give valuable recommendations that are useful and practical in modern railway optimization modeling and can be implemented on not only from China to Azerbaijan but also whole railway transportation of “One Belt One Road” project.
