Building form,as the interactive interface between building space and natural environment,is one of the design considerations in green building design. As an artificial system, architecture form has adapted to different kinds of climatic situations in a long-term game with the natural environment. This climate adaptability of architecture form is not only the green wisdom of traditional buildings, but also a part of modern green building design.Parametrization is considered to be a contemporary innovation in the method of architecture design. When architects use digital thinking to understand and create architecture form, graphical language and digital language can attain to communicate and dialogue.Building simulation technology and computer technology, made a great development in these years, have provided tools and means for parametric design and research of green buildings. This paper takes office buildings in hot summer and cold winter regions as an example, studied the mapping relationship between building form and building energy consumption, utilizing graphical parameterization and numerical analysis. Two kinds of semi-enclosed forms of plate-buildings,L-shaped buildings and U-shaped buildings, were the research objects in this paper. They were deconstructed into twelve building prototypes.Through case investigations on office buildings in major cities in hot summer and cold winter regions, the place of notch in L-shaped building and U-shaped buildings were respectively determined to be southeastward and northward.L-shaped plane and U-shaped plane were translated into digital geometric planes by analytical geometry. The degree of freedom(DOF)was 3 for the geometric plane of L-shaped standard floor in Cartesian coordinate system. For the equilateral U-shaped plane and the inequilateral U-shaped plane, the DOF was respectively 4 and 5.Combined with building shape data collected in the case study as the boundary conditions, the generation algorithm of building layout was compiled on the MATLAB platform.Typical layout of L-shaped buildings and U-shaped buildings in hot summmer and cold winter regions, which were used as research samples, were generated by programming in MATLAB.DesignBuilder,a simulation software developed for the building energy dynamic simulation program(EnergyPlus),has a comprehensive user graphical interface. In this paper, building 3D information models were built in DesignBuilder and the simulation of building energy consumption were conducted by the EnergyPlus module. The building energy consumption of heating ventilation air condition(HVAC)is closely related to building layouts.By analyzing building energy consumption of all building samples,it was found that there is a non-linear relationship between building shape coefficient and building energy consumption,so was the building width-ratio to energy consumption, the building depth-ratio to energy consumption. The relationship between building layout and energy consumption was further numerically analyzed on the MATLAB platform.Function relationship between building shape coefficient and energy consumption of L-shaped buildings and U-shaped buildings was found.Various regression models of building width-ratio,depth-ratio to energy consumption were compared and analyzed, forming a "building shape regression map" to diagraming the mapping relationship between building form and energy consumption.During the conceptional stage, the digram can provide direction and quantitative suggestions for the building form optimization of low energy consumption.Besides,a software for selecting low energy forms of U-shaped buildings in hot summer and cold winter regions was developed in this paper.
