A Case Study Of The Spring Context Of Landscape Construction In Street And Lane Spaces-historical Blocks From Furong Street To Qushuiting Street

Jinan has been long acclaimed as the “City of Springs”,is known as one of the national historical and cultural cities,and features profound humanistic background and special geographical environment.Within the city proper,three sides are surrounded by mountains where many springs flow in,which in turn play a vital role in the urban development with typical characteristics and the shaping of folk cultures.“Lotus flowers on four sides and willow trees on three sides,a city with mountains and half a city with lakes” is a true portrayal of the featured landscape in Jinan,which also constitutes a part of the distinctive spring context system in the city center.Over the years,the accelerated process of urban renewal has constantly impacted Jinan's traditional local culture and led to more serious homogenization of traditional streets and lanes.As the spring context system has not yet been fully exploited,traditional streets and lanes are enduring weakened spatial characteristics,a number of streets and lanes with the lingering city memory is overly commercialized even tore down.In this regard,In this regard,an urgent need is felt to improve the image of street and lane spaces and create distinctive local landscape spaces comprising streets and lanes in this City of Springs,without altering or changing the whole spatial form of traditional streets and lanes,which is an essential condition for addressing the ongoing construction of homogenized streets and lanes with the spring context.Based on the study of the landscape construction of Jinan's spring context system in street and lane spaces,this paper starts with the analysis of challenges and opportunities subsistent in the ongoing development of traditional street and lane spaces in Jinan from the perspective of context continuance,and discusses the main content,purpose and meaning of this work with reference to available domestic and foreign works on the present updates ofspring context and street and lane spaces.Then this paper gives definition to “spring context”and “street and lane spaces” as mentioned here,and indicates the role that spring context plays in improving spatial image,activating space and creating unique landscape space in street and lane spaces.Based on theoretical research,this paper also reveals three spatial forms(dot,line,plane)taken by spring context in streets and lanes and its functional characteristics(spatial interaction,behavioral orientation,cultural inheritance,landscape identity).Through the above considerations,it is suggested that spring context should be consistent with social,global,authentic and interactive principles and take some strategies of retaining Jinan's historical elements,making the texture of streets and lanes continued,introducing cultural tourism industry and creating connective landscapes,in order to construct street and lane spaces that reproduce the civil atmosphere,enhance context traits,reinvigorate streets and lanes and renew the narrative space.Illustrating the spatial landscape of historical blocks from Furong Street to Qushuiting Street in Jinan as an example,the problems subsistent in inner block spaces are analyzed,the use and expression techniques of the spring context system in Jinan's traditional street and lane spaces are further discussed by considering the principles and strategies of landscape construction.Finally,the research results are extracted,the research limitations are described,and certain conductive references are offered for the use of spring context in the spatial landscape construction of traditional streets and lanes in Jinan.
