There is still a long way to go between the requiremertfs of the Convention and the applicable standards for the students majoring in navigation in China nowadays.The main reason is that the model of current seafarers' maritime English examination for certificates of competence cannot meet the needs of real development.This thesis takes the washback effects of seafarers' maritime English examination for certificates of competence as an object for analysis and research.It mainly focuses on the following several aspects:(1)The washback effects and nature of the current seafarers'maritime English examination for certificates of competence on maritime English teaching as a whole;(2)The washback effects and nature of the seafarers' maritime English examination for certificates of competence on teachers,students,and college administrators;(3)The specific negative washback effects and measures taken against these negative washback effects.Based on the above aspects,this thesis uses questionnaire method,Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP)method and Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation(FCE)method to do the research.The results show that seafarers' maritime English examination for certificates of competence has washback effects on teachers,students,and college administrators.And the negative washback effects are greater than the positive washback effects.Among them,the negative washback effects for teachers on teaching methods,teaching content,teaching materials are more obvious.The negative washback effects for students on learning content,learning strategies,learning interest and learning materials are more obvious.The negative washback effects for school administrators on teaching plans,the syllabus formulation and the evaluation mechanism of teachers are more obvious.In response to these results,this thesis proposes the corresponding suggestions.Through the implementation of these measures,it aims to curb its negative washback effects and promote the positive washback effects.
