Large shipping data are profoundly changing and affecting the shipping industry. With the popularization of AIS,the navigation data generated by AIS shows explosive growth. The massive AIS data contains abundant ship information, including ship route information. As a key technology of ship intelligent navigation system, route planning has always been a research hotspot of scholars at home and abroad. At present, route planning mainly focuses on the broader sea area, while the study of inland waters is rare.It is due to the restriction of waters of inland navigation, ship routes are relatively fixed. The historical routes of a large number of previous ships also reflect the characteristics of the navigational waters, which is also an important knowledge reference for the later. Therefore, the combination of massive ship AIS data and route planning has its unique research significance. Moreover, most of the previous route planning studies only considered the characteristics of navigation waters, while route planning based on AIS data incorporated the customary navigation methods of previous ships into the consideration factors of route planning, which provided a new idea for the study of ship route planning. In this paper,we took the AIS data of ships sailing inland rivers as the research object, and aiming at the existing problems of route planning.we proposed the research of inland waterway ship customary route generation based on AIS data, and verified its feasibility through experiments. The main work of this paper is as follows.(1)Proposed a study on AIS data cleaning aimed for inland waterway route generation.According to the characteristics of AIS data, different data cleaning methods were adopted.Firstly, the data of the tributaries are cleaned by ray method. Then, proposed a new interpolation method to supplement AIS data of ships at turning point according to the change of course and speed of two adjacent ship locations. Finally, defined the flight point of ship AIS data, and formulated the corresponding flight point determination and processing strategies.(2)Proposed a grid generation method for seaworthiness counting.Firstly, processed the coastline data of the studied water, including deleting tributary coastline, extracting inland island and shoal coastline,to obtain standard coastline data. Then, generated the body-fitted grid along the river direction by ArcGIS and AutoCAD software, and counted the frequencies of ships passing through each grid.(3)Proposed a customary route generation method based on grid seaworthiness. The grid seaworthiness is obtained by normalizing the frequencies of the ships in the grid. The ship route is initialized according to the grid seaworthiness. Then,we proposed the concept of cumulative course variation and compress the initial route and get the final customary route by improved Douglas-Peucker algorithm based on cumulative course variation.
