High voltage transmission line is an important part of the power system.Once the transmission line fails, the stability of the power system will be seriously damaged. It will seriously affect the quality of power supply. In order to repair and restore power supply as soon as possible, the speed and accuracy of line fault classification and identification are required in practical application. Therefore,to improve the defects of the available methods used on fault classification of transmission lines,a new scheme for fault classification of high voltage transmission lines is proposed based on signal amplitudes in this paper. For comparison and verification, two sets of simulation models of 220kV-300 km and 400kV-300 km high voltage transmission lines with different voltage levels are established respectively, and the fault signals(voltage or current)are collected from the single-ended transmission line to establish the fault database. Then, after the fault signals are input into low-pass filter to remove the noise interference, the amplitudes of fault signals are intercepted as the features. The support vectr machine(SVM)is selected as the fault classifier, and the obtained fault features are used to train the SVM.Finally, the test set is classified and labeled to predict the fault type and realize the classification of transmission line faults.Comparing with other fault classification schemes, this new scheme reduces complex data processing and calculation processes, speeds up the speed of fault classification, and improves the accuracy of fault classification to a certain extent. The fault classification scheme in this paper is simpler and faster, and is not easily affected by the fault location, fault initial angle, transition resistance and other factors. It has good adaptability for transmission lines of different voltage levels.
