The tailings pond is an important place to store tailings.Once a dam break occurs,it will cause serious disasters in the nearby population and environment.Seepage failure is one of the most important causes of problems such as instability or dam failure of the tailings dam. Therefore, the following three aspects are analyzed:the design of the tailings pond in the early stage, the management of the tailings pond in the operation period, and the closed storage management of the tailings pond in the later stage.Studying the seepage state of the tailings dam body and rationally designing and managing the tailings pond to achieve the purpose of preventing seepage damage of the tailings dam body is of great scientific significance and practical value.Based on the two-dimensional and three-dimensional finite element seepage numerical analysis of typical profiles of tailings ponds and the comparison of design management regulations in several countries, this paper puts forward reasonable suggestions for the early design and post management of tailings ponds.A two-dimensional seepage model of typical profiles was established for each factor affecting the height of the saturation line in the tailings reservoir area. The influence of various factors on the height of the immersion line and the minimum depth of the immersion line was compared and analyzed.Combined with the seepage example of the Lixi tailings reservoir area, the complex three-dimensional numerical model was established by using the ADINA temperature module, which simplified the structure of the radiation well and made a detailed comparison with the measured saturation line.Through the summary and comparison of design specifications and management experience in China,Brazil,Canada and the United States,it provides a theoretical basis for the design and management of tailings ponds. The main research results of this paper are as follows:(1)Combining the typical section of the tailings dam, using the finite element numerical analysis, the factors such as the height of the dam dam,the ratio of the permeability coefficient of the tailings in each layer of the dam,the length of the dry dam of the dam and the slope of the downstream of the dam are discussed. The special impact of the seepage field of the tailings dam.It is suggested that in the early design of the tailings pond, the factors that reduce the wetting line should be considered comprehensively,so as to design a reasonable size of the dam type that is more conducive to the stability and safety of the dam.(2)Based on the three-dimensional seepage calculation model of Lixi tailings reservoir, the radiation well and its simulation method are simplified, and the numerical analysis of seepage is carried out.The influence of the addition of the radiation well on the numerical results of the seepage flow was analyzed and compared with the measured saturation line to provide a basis for the establishment and design of the later drainage measures. The results show that the radiation well has a great influence on the wetting line downstream of the pile dam and verifies the reliability of the simplified radiation well.(3)Based on the summary and comparison of the design management experience of the four countries, the recommendations for appropriate improvement of flood control standards and stability safety factor were put forward, and the safety of tailings ponds was proposed as an important part of safety supervision.Combined with the experience of closed storage management of a tailings pond, the necessary measures for establishing a green mine are summarized.
