Satellite-based Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast(ADS-B)is an emerging aircraft surveillance technology in air traffic control system. It can be used for continuous en-route surveillance in oceanic, desert and high latitude area where radars and ground stations do not exist. The surveillance performance of the system deteriorates seriously due to path loss effect and co-channel interference. Therefore,to ensure that the satellite-based ADS-B system can provide safe and reliable surveillance service in practice,it is crucial to evaluate the surveillance performance of the system. For this problem,a model of the satellite-based ADS-B system is developed. The architecture and modules of the software are designed according to the data flow and data conversion in the system. The interface and modules are given in detail, the coding is completed and the operation is tested. The surveillance performance of the system is evaluated. The main work of the dissertation is as follows.Firstly, models of satellite system, waypoint flight,ADS-B message broadcasting and ADS-B message reception are developed. The link budget analysis for aircraft-satellite communication are derived.Simulations results verify the correctness of the models and theoretical results.Secondly, the requirement analysis, conceptual design and detailed design of the simulation data software of satellite-based ADS-B system are given. The software is implemented by using C and C++ programming language.Thirdly, the function and performance of the software are tested.By using the simulation data which generated from the software, the correct reception probability of ADS-B message and the update interval of 95% position message are obtained. Results show that the surveillance performance of the system will be affected by path loss effect and co-channel interference, resulting in a decrease in the correct reception probability of ADS-B messages and an increase in the update interval of 95% position message.
