The light hybrid system based on start-stop technology can save fuel and reduce the emission of CO2 significantly.It's relatively simple and can be implemented with small modification to existing vehicle model.So,it draws more and more attentions of various vehicle manufacturers.The starter will charge and discharge the battery frequently,which increases battery temperature.It's necessary to utilize high efficiency active cooling system to manage battery thermal and increase battery lifetime.Permanent magnet BLDCM based blower becomes the first choice due to high efficiency,low noise and high lifetime.Permanent magnet BLDCM based blower introduced in this article consists of outer rotor motor,driving circuit and impeller.Firstly,the control system and structure of single phase and 3 phase motors were introduced.Then fan driver and control system were developed.The control principle and utilization of integrated motor driver IC DRV10983 were deeply analyzed.Considering the load characteristics,noise and PQ requirements,motor and impeller parameters were then determined,and the cogging torque and BACKEMF were optimized.Based on the study,blower prototype was built.Finally,to ensure the compliance with design requirements and automotive industry standards,noise test,PQ test,efficiency test,current test and BEMF test were implemented to the prototype blower.
