Urban rail transit(URT)has the advantages of transport system relatively independent, fast and punctual, serving for the travel of middle and long distance urban residents. It plays a very important role in alleviating traffic congestion in the urban center and strengthening the connection between the urban center and its peripheral areas. Thus, vigorously developing rail transit has become the main means to alleviate urban traffic problems.Because of the bulkiness and irreversibility of urban rail transit construction project,in order to make the line meet the travel needs of passengers in different periods flexibly in the future,a reasonable design should be made for the train routing scheme in the design stage. The characteristics of passenger flow distribution are the basis of making train operation plan.In this paper, firstly,a single urban rail transit line is taken as the research object.Starting from the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of passenger flow in the line section,it is concluded that in the case of uneven distribution of passenger flow in the section, the line should adopt the operation plan of multiple routing. At the same time, further analysis of the adaptability of full-length&short-turn routing mode and urban space development is made. And taking the rail transit in Shanghai as an example, the wide applicability of fulllength&short-turn routing mode is illustrated.Secondly, this paper divides the factors that influence the design of full-length&shortturn routing mode into five categories: OD switching characteristics, importance of station in the network, line conditions, passenger travel needs, transportation resources and costs.Based on the analysis of OD switching characteristics between the different sections of the line, the different requirements of departure frequency for different functional sections of the line are expounded.Through the comprehensive analysis of the passenger flow distribution of transfer station, the importance of line station network, and the operating conditions of the line, the paper points out the key contents should be considered when determining the operating section of the short routing and selecting the intermediate switchback station. And the analysis of the above all influencing factors is the theoretical basis for constructing the objective function of the optimization model and determining the constraint conditions of the model.Thirdly, this paper analyzes the passenger travel cost and enterprise operation cost based on the full-length&short-turn routing mode operation scheme.Based on the analysis of passengers’ travel choice behavior, the generalized cost model of passenger waiting time is established.By analyzing the relationship between passenger comfort and full capacity, the generalized cost model of passenger congestion is established.By analyzing the period of train operation diagram, the train utilization number and purchase cost of full-length and short-turn routing are calculated respectively. Then,This paper analyzes the relationship between the energy consumption of train traction and the running distance, the dead weight and the carrying capacity of the train, and establishes a simplified model of energy consumption of train traction which is suitable for optimizing the operation scheme of the full-length&short-turn routing mode. Finally, considering the constraints of maximum waiting time, return capacity of switchback station, transit capacity of intermediate switchback station, train tracking interval and full-load rate, etc.,the paper establishes a multi-objective optimization model of URT with minimal passenger travel cost, line construction and operating cost as the optimization objective. The idea and method are put forward to solve the problem by programming with matlab. The effectiveness and operability of the model is verified by taking xi ’an rail transit line 5 as an example.
