A Study On The Diversity Of Lingnan Overseas Chinese Architecture

Lingnan region is located inland and facing the sea.Since ancient times,it has been an active trading port in China.From ancient times to modern times,Lingnan region has always been a window of foreign trade and cultural exchanges,people have an open and inclusive character.In modern times,Western powers forcibly implanted foreign cultures into the coastal areas from Lingnan,making Lingnan an intersection of different cultures in the world.This "complex" cultural form,including the spiritual level of ideas and the material level of living,originated from the foreign culture introduced by the ancestors of this region and the Western civilization which was forced to accept in modern times.Material forms such as architecture,furniture all contains the characteristics of this complex culture.Overseas Chinese in Lingnan area are concentrated and scattered all over the world.Because of the convenience of the region,Southeast Asia has become the first choice for overseas Chinese in Lingnan area.After living in the area for a period of time,the overseas Chinese will inevitably integrate intothe social and cultural circles of the area.Their ideas,lifestyles and other aspects will be influenced imperceptibly,thus becoming an organic part of the overseas Chinese.In addition,the cultural genes of the nation are always deeply rooted in the blood of the Chinese people.No matter where they are,they will always attach to and retain the basic core of the native country,so that the overseas Chinese have a "complex" spiritual structure and life structure.With the changes of time and society,no matter the feelings of falling leaves to their roots,or the needs of returning home to seek new development,many overseas Chinese have returned home to start their own businesses,purchase acres of land and construct buildings,gradually forming a unique picture in this area.The living environment and ways of life of the expatriates are consciously or unconsciously characterized by the dual characteristics of their native land and their country of residence.Because of the wide distribution of overseas Chinese in Lingnan area and the rich and diverse culture of the overseas Chinese's residence,the culture of the overseas Chinese's hometown has become rich and complex.As a living space and spiritual carrier,architecture will inevitably become rich and colorful with such duality.This paper focuses on combing and analyzing the diversity of overseas Chinese architecture in Lingnan area.The first chapter is an introduction,which comprehensively analyses the existing research results and puts forward the theoretical and practical significance,research methods and contents of this topic.The second chapter is a summary of overseas Chinese architecture in Lingnan area,which defines the appearance of overseas Chinese architecture in Lingnan and the architecture of overseas Chinese architecture in Lingnan area.The fourth chapter explores the reasons for the architectural diversity of Lingnan overseas Chinese architecture from the perspective of the special historical experience of modern China,the unique geographical environment of Lingnan region,and the tradition and advantages of foreign exchanges in Lingnan region.
