Lin Yongxiang’s Architectural Creation Process Research

Lin Yongxiang is a new generation of architectural design talent cultivated by Lingnan architects and architectural educators,such as Xia Changshi,Chen Boqi and Long Qingzhong.These new generations of architects,such as Cai Dedao,Wu Weiliang,Chen Weilian,He Jingtang,Lin Zhaojun,etc.,have participated in or hosted a number of influential architectural works since the 1960 s and 1970 s.Since the 1960 s,Lin Yongxiang has gone to Fujian to teach,rooted in architectural education,trained a group of outstanding architectural engineering talents,and also has many architectural practices.In the 1980 s,he returned to Guangzhou to participate in the construction of Guangzhou in the early days of reform and opening up.He contributed to modern Lingnan architectural education,but few people paid attention.He hosted the design of such important projects as the South China Institute of Technology Building 2 Expansion Project,Guangdong Xinghai Concert Hall,Guangdong Overseas Chinese Museum and so on.These architectural works are important parts of modern Lingnan architectural creation.Studying Lin Yongxiang’s architectural creation process is not only a supplement to Lingnan’s architect research,but also beneficial to enriching the modern Lingnan architectural creation concept,and also provides valuable reference for modern Lingnan architectural creation.The first chapter of the thesis mainly elaborates the reason,research objectives and content of the subject.Due to the limited research data,the author prepares the research by oral history,field investigation and comparative research.The second chapter of the thesis mainly reviews Lin Yongxiang’s main experience.Through oral history and historical materials exploration,it analyzes the impact of each experience on his personality,knowledge accumulation,academic attitude,professional literacy,etc.,and sorts out his main practical activities.The third chapter of the thesis analyzes the typical works in Lin Yongxiang’s architectural creation process.The chapter contrasts and analyzes his early works in the context of the times;analyzes the characteristics of his works from a more objective angle,sums up the architectural creation ideas formed during this period,and the characteristics of Lingnan architectural creation.Analyzes the architectural works created by Lin Yongxiang after returning to Guangzhou are mainly based on the significance of the era of architectural creation,highlights the most important features and core creative concepts of each of his works,as well as the typical characteristics of Lingnan architectural style.At the end of this chapter,Lin Yongxiang’s main architectural creation concept is summarized,and its characteristics are consistent with Lingnan architectural creation.At the end of the thesis,the paper points out the coordinates of Lin Yongxiang in the development of modern Lingnan architecture,and summarizes the contribution and significance of his architectural creation process to Fujian Province’s architectural education,Lingnan architectural education,Lingnan architecture and creative ideas.
