Fire is one of the most common disasters that threaten human life and property safety.It is a burning behavior that is out of control in time and space.The heat release rate is one of the most important parameters describing the fire process,reflecting the change in heat release per unit time over time during combustion.With the development of the petrochemical industry,high polymers have become an indispensable part of human production and life.Most of the high polymers are flammable solids,with high calorific value and high smoke generation.Seriously threatening the l ife safety of personnel and causing major property losses,it is of great practical significance to carry out research on the prediction model of the heat release rate of polymers.The research object is a thermoplastic polymer,a typical material of expanded polystyrene(EPS)and polystyrene in foamed high polymer and non-foamed high polymer in a small size ISO 9705 cone calorimeter.The thin plate(PS plate)was subjected to a combustion experiment,and the rate of heat release from the ignition to the extinction combustion was measured.According to the characteristics of the experimental curve of the heat release rate of expanded polystyrene combustion,a scaled heat release rate curve prediction model based on Gaussian function is proposed.The thermal parameters of combustion include peak heat release rate,peak heat release rate arrival time and the duration of the fire.The power function relationship between total heat release and the amount of combustibles was found.According to the relationship between parameters,the combustion results of large-sized objects can be predicted.Through the analysis of the heat release rate measured by the PS plate burning experiment,combined with the combustion process,it was found that the total heat release showed a good linear relationship with the PS plate area.Based on the exponential function,the heat release rate prediction model of the PS plate is established.The combustion thermophysical parameters involved include peak heat release rate,peak arrival t ime,and total heat release.The experimental results of other sizes of PS plates show that the prediction results of the model for the heat release rate curve of the PS plate are credible.The heat release rate prediction model for expanded polystyrene materials and non-foamed PS sheets was obtained by this study,which provided a new method for the establishment of thermal release rate prediction model for thermoplastic polymers.The determination of the heat release rate curve in the performance-based fire protection design provides a new idea.
