Combination of concrete and steel has proven to be excellent materials in the construction industry of the year.It has helped man design remarkable structures such as bridges, dams, stadium and arches to span long distances. The reinforcement of concrete increases its strength and durability.Fire over the years has proven to be the worst menace our structures can ever experience. These kinds of accidents are random event and can be mitigated when the necessary actions are taken to prevent huge losses. With the waves of fire attacks soaring over the years,it has drawn attention for those in the field of fire safety and structural design.Authorities around the world are looking for solutions or mitigation to reduce the losses incurs when there is a fire outbreak. This research examines two concrete columns exposed to different heating rates(slow and fast). The different heating will be used on the column faces to help determine the damage to the concrete and steel of the column. It also considered the concrete cover used for both columns which have different covers. The heating carried out is done according to IS0834 standard fire curve. The results of the temperature field analysis clearly point to the following:1.The results show the effect of fire is more severe with increasing the number of faces of exposure.2.When concrete and steel are combined, the heating rate applies on the surface of concrete when reaching the steel begins at zero degree.3.The effect of the cover can be clearly seen, cover thickness reduces the impact heating rate. The thicker the cover the larger the cracking width...
