Wavy lip seal is a kind of rotating hydrodynamic oil seal with low contact pressure,strong punping capacity?good heat dissipation effect and long service life.The main distinction between the wavy lip seal and the other seal is the difference of the lip shape,and wavy lip seal is composed of several free surfaces which are closed in the circumferential direction.As a result,the design and manufacture of wavy lip seal is difficult,and the sealing mechanism 1s more complicated than other seals.The above problems have not been solved because of the limitation of technical conditions,which has become the bottleneck problem that restricts the wide application of wavy lip seal.The key to solve the above problems is to master the sealing mechanism of wavy lip seal,to establish its accurate model and to analyze its sealing performance.The sealing mechanism of wavy lip seal is complicatedlIn this paper,the sealing mechanism of the wavy lip seal was studied from the micro and macro angles based on the seal lip structure and the wedge eff-ect principle,and the performance and key structure parameters were also introduced.It lays a theoretical foundation for the simulation and experimental analysis of the wavy lip seal.In this paper,the circumferential unrolling and rolling transformation principle was proposed,and a 3D modeling method of wavy lip seal is studied based on this principle aiming at the problem of precise modeling of wavy lip seal.First step is to build the 3D unrolling surfaces model of wavy lip seal according to the circumferential unrolling principle.Then,the 3D unrolling surfaces model is rolled on the basis of circumferential rolling principle.Finally,the 3D model of the wavy lip seal can be obtained using the entity generation function of the software.In this paper,the static contact performance parameters of the wavy lip seal were analyzed by nonlinear static simulation,and compared with the ordinary lip seal.The effect of amplitude and period on the static contact performance parameters of wavy lip seal is proposed at the same time.The error is very small through the error analysis of the model,which fLilly meets the requirement of modeling accuracy.Considering the sealing mechanism and the material particularity of the wavy lip seal,the coupling interaction between oil seal and tlLiid and the influence of lip structure on the coupling interaction were studied by means of fluid-solid couplirig simulation analysis.It is very important to study the sealing performance of wavy lip seal.The pumping quantity and radial contact force of the wavy lip seal were measured by experiments.and compared with the test result of ordinary lip seal.The results show that the pumping capacity of the wavy lip seal are stronger than that of the ordinary lip seal,and the average radial contact force of the wavy lip seal is smaller than that of the ordinary lip seal.
