The Research Of Ancient Town Of The Cai Kingdom

As one of the 12 major vassal states during the Spring and Autumn Period,Cai was bordered by Jingchu in the south and Zhongyuan in the north,and played an important role in the historical civilization of the Western Zhou Dynasty.The ancient town of the Cai kingdom is one of the relatively complete capital cities of the western Zhou dynasty that remains today in China.After being destroyed early in the Warring States period,Cai became the "Shangcai" in the northern part of Chu and was occupied by Chu for more than 300 years.After Qin unified China,Cai was elevated to a march and the Tucheng "Shangcai County” was built,which continued the life of the city for thousands of years.For present-day Shangcai,the ancient town of Cai is an important carrier of the history and culture of modern urban.Today,as a plain county with a population of 1.6 million,Shangcai has developed rapidly and the scale of the construction of the county has been continuously expanded.However,the ancient town of Cai kingdom has been eroded.According to aerial photography and urban features,Shangcai,like many ordinary counties,has failed to highlight the historical features of the “Millennial Ancient County”.In the 1960 s,the research on the ancient town of Cai kingdom began to receive attention form levels of government.With the efforts of people from all walks of life,the research about it on field archaeology,cultural relics protection,historical and cultural studies has made some achievements.In 2005,the archaeological excavation of noble cemeteries in Shangcai attracted widespread attention from all walks of life,which once again promoted the progress of cultural relics protection and regional cultural propaganda in the ancient town of Cai kingdom.However,there is still a lack of academic research in the aspects of architectural history,site protection and site display and utilization.In this paper,the research of the ancient town of the Cai kingdom mainly includes the urban evolution,the protection,exhibition and utilization of ruins.In the study of urban evolution,taking the historical analysis as the index and combining with the archaeological status,first of all,the origin of Cai and the issue of Cai Shu Du's feudal land are discussed and concluded on the basis of previous studies.It is found that the overall shape and scale of ancient town of the Cai kingdom are highly in line with the requirements of etiquette planning in “Kao Gong Ji”.The beacon fire platform,horse face,urn and City River emphasize functionality and practicability,among which the beacon fire platform and horse face are combined and used in a large volume.Urn is embedded in the wide city plains and has the function of stationing troops.The City River takes the wide surface as a prominent feature to enhance its defense,which is the product of the germination of the defense system of ancient city pools in China.From the perspective of time and space,this paper analyzed the potential factors of the county towns derived from Cai in Qin and Han Dynasties.The location and construction of the county towns depended on the original foundation of the city of Cai.Afterwards,due to the influence of war and natural factors,the administrative status of the county towns gradually stabilized,and the city pools and the ancient city of Cai also formed a stable spatial pattern in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.From the perspective of time and space,this paper analyzed the potential factors of the county towns derived from the Cai in Qin and Han Dynasties.The location and construction of the county towns depended on the original foundation of Cai.Afterwards,due to the influence of war and natural factors,the administrative status of the county towns gradually stabilized,and the city pools also formed a stable spatial pattern in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.In the protection,display and utilization of the site of ancient town of the Cai Kingdom,this paper explores the present situation and value of the site.In the strategy of site protection,it emphasizes that the protection is "integrity" at the top level,"active" at the middle level and "diverse" at the grass-roots level.In the research of site display and utilization,because of the long history of the site of ancient town of the Cai kingdom and the poor identification and objectivity of its constituent elements,it mainly applies to the two ways of site partial protection display and site museum display.We tries to excavate the ancient town of the Cai kingdom's derivative culture and Shangcai regional culture,and puts forward the overall display layout of "two axes and three sides" based on culture,and probes into the exhibition theme and exhibition area.The demonstration routes,the analysis of the concrete demonstration effects of the runway around the city wall and the corridor of the county in Ming and Qing Dynasties,etc.In view of the important site resources of other periods in ancient town of the Cai kingdom,this paper also puts forward relevant suggestions on its utilization.The research of ancient town of the Cai kingdom aims to provide basic theoretical support for Shangcai in the areas of regional planning,site protection,tourism development and public construction in the future.The paper hopes to accumulate experience for the same type of research,benefit the protection of old city sites,improve local residents' lives,promote local economic development,and activate the connotation of "Millennium Ancient County" in Shangcai country.
