Electric vehicles have become an important part of the automotive industry in the past few decades.It has attracted wide attention from the global automotive industry.Electric vehicles not only show great superiority in energy saving and environmental protection,but also have great advantages in vehicle performance,such as fast torque response and fast acceleration.Recently the requirements for the handling stability and response agility of electric vehicles have attracted the attention of consumersBattery is the energy storage element of electric vehicle,it has the characteristic of large volume and mass.It occupies a considerable part of the mass and inertia moment of the vehicle,which has a negative impact on vehicle handling stability.However,high-level vehicle handling characteristics are the key to ensure traffic safety.As one of the most important performances of automobiles,handling stability not only has influence on the convenience of driving,but also determines the safety of vehicles at high speed.So it is always the focus of researchers’ attention.In recent years,the concept of vehicle agility has been mentioned frequently because of the increasing demand from consumers.The main contents of this paper are organized as follows:1.A review of the advanced technologies to improve handling stability and response agility is made and the characteristics of each technology is analyzed.The research status of handling stability and response agility is summarized.It is concluded that there is a lack of technology to improve handling stability and agility by optimizing the moment of inertia of the vehicle.2.The current development status of battery for electric vehicle is surveyed,and the types of battery and its advantages and disadvantages are summarized.So we get the idea that it is difficult to optimize the volume and moment of inertia of the battery without affecting the battery capacity and vehicle mileage at present.3.Based on the conclusions above and the existing chassis structure of electric vehicle,a new chassis wherein the battery pack is yaw-direction-suspension mounted is designed,it adds a freedom of rotation between batteries and chassis of EVs.The structure and operational principle of the chassis is introduced.4.Build the mathematical and multi-body dynamic model of EV with battery pack oscillated chassis,and the parameters are optimized by using the mathematical model.5.Frequency analysis of the electric vehicle with new chassis are studied by using MATLAB/Simulink.The simulation results show that the frequency response of the new chassis is better than that of the traditional vehicle,and the new chassis can obviously improve the handling stability and response agility of the electric vehicle.Then the simulation of step steering,single lane change conditions are studied.The simulation results show that after the battery pack is yaw-direction-suspension mounted,the influence of its inertia moment on the steering of electric vehicle is significantly reduced,and the response agility and handling stability are obviously improved.
