Study On The Combination Of Chinese And Western Styles In The Campus Buildings Of Cheeloo University

The construction of missionary university in China is not only a pioneer in the history of higher education in modern China,but also an explorer and leader in the integration of Chinese and Western architecture and culture in modern China.As one of the modern missionary universities.Cheeloo University,under the influence of the blending of Chinese and Western cultures in its new campus built in Jinan in 1917.presents a "combination of Chinese and Western" style in the overall campus form and architectural style,which is a typical representative of modern missionary university architecture.At present,the overall pattern of the old campus site of Cheeloo University is relatively well preserved,and some teaching buildings and school buildings are still in use.The study of its campus architectural form can promote the renovation,protection and cultural inheritance of campus architectural heritage,and also contribute to the related research of the Church University buildings.Based on the construction of new campus of Cheeloo University in Jinan,this paper summarizes the characteristics of architecture from the aspects of campus layout.public buildings,residential buildings and other buildings.This research is beneficial to promote the theoretical research of modern "national rejuvenation" architecture;secondly,this paper traces the original ideas and construction methods of Cheeloo University,extracts its specific architectural style,construction technology and functional layout,and provides a reasonable basis for the protection and transformation of the architectural heritage of the former Cheeloo University.The core content of this paper is to summarize the construction concept.architectural characteristics and cultural connotation of Cheeloo University through a large number of field surveys and mapping,analysis and collation of pictures and literature,and through the comparison with the same architectural style of campus at the same time.Specifically,this paper summarizes the research on Chinese missionary universities at home and abroad,introduces the background of construction and relocation of Cheeloo University,and divides the space structure of Cheeloo University's campus into functional zones in the modern sense.This paper discusses the integration of Chinese and Western expressions of public buildings,residential buildings and other ancillary buildings on the campus of Cheeloo University in detail.On this basis,it summarizes the construction and architectural skills of Cheeloo University,and puts forward the eclecticism tendency and northern official style of Cheeloo University campus architecture.At the same time,the classification of typical buildings in Cheeloo University and the details of individual buildings are summarized and elaborated by analogy.
