In China's big cities, there has been an upsurge in the development and utilization of urban underground space. The overall scale of development and utilization of underground space in each city has been expanding since the 21st century, and the use of underground space has also evolved from a single to a diversified function. However, the lack of quantitative analysis models in the planning and development of urban underground space has led to the unreasonable development and utilization of underground space in many cities and the unreasonable development of underground facilities. How to scientifically conduct a quantitative study of urban underground space can make the development and use of urban underground space more reasonable, orderly, and efficientThis paper collects data on the development and utilization of underground space and socio-economic data from 26 large cities in China, and uses regression analysis to study the relationship between socio-economic indicators and the intensity of urban underground space development. The k-means layering method and geo-detector algorithm are used to analyze the determinants of spatial differentiation of underground space development intensity.Taking Nanjing as an example, combining quantitative and qualitative methods, the differences in scale and function of urban underground space development and utilization were analyzed. The main findings are as follows:(1)Population density and average GDP are important factors affecting the scale of underground space development and utilization.Population density determines the demand for urban underground space development and utilization. The average GDP determines the actual scale of urban underground space development and utilization.(2)The scale of development and utilization of underground space in large cities in China can be determined based on the quantitative model of underground space development and utilization:DUUS=0.092GDPpa+1.765PD-428.887.DUUS is the intensity of underground space development,GDPpa is average GDP,PD is population density.(3)Population density and GDP per capita have a strong decisive influence on the spatial heterogeneity of urban underground space development intensity, and the determinant power of population density is higher than that of average GDP.The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River is an advantageous area for the development and utilization of urban underground space. The Bohai Rim and the Northeast areas and Southeast Coast areas are potential areas for the development and utilization of underground space(4)In the central urban area where the floor area of the building is very high, the traffic and commercial functions of the underground space should be more exerted, and the flow of people on the ground should be eased to ease the traffic congestion, and a underground space network integrated with the underground and underground development should be formed. In the yet to be developed new city and deputy city,we must do a good job of planning ahead and reserve a space for long-term development in the construction of recent underground space.(5)The Xinjiekou area and the Confucius Temple area are advantageous areas for the development and utilization of urban underground space in Nanjing and can fully exploit the economic benefits of underground space;Hexi CBD area and Nanjing South Station area city Nanjing City develop potential areas of urban underground space and can use In the future,it will expand more living and production space for the city.
