With the rapid economic development in China, the mileage of highways has increased rapidly, the mileage of road maintenance has also increased substantially. The economic development has brought about a dramatic increase in traffic volume, which has led to the increasing severity of rutting.Rutting has great influence on pavement performance. In many countries, the state of rutting on road surfaces is an important basis for implementing conservation decisions. Therefore,a reasonable and accurate evaluation of the state of the road rutting is required. At present, the evaluation of the rutting state is mainly based on rutting depth.Based on the long-term test data of LTPP,this paper analyzes the state of the road rutting under the influence of different factors, and makes a reasonable evaluation of the state of rutting on the road from the perspective of safety and road performance.First, starting from the data characteristics obtained by the current rutting detection technology, based on the impact of road rutting on traffic and road maintenance, the rutting depth,cross-sectional area, negative area, filling area, and aspect ratio of the gutter wall are used to represent the state of the rut.Aiming at solving the problem of neglecting the cross-sectional shape in the extraction of traditional rut indicators, this paper proposes a classification method based on cross-section recognition and a program was wrote in MATLAB to automaticly identificate rut section types and extract of characteristic indexes.Secondly, based on the massive cross-sectional data in the LTPP database, the original data was cleaned and optimized by selecting the original cross-section data, detecting the location and detecting the width data. And using the optimized cross-section data to extract relevant indexes.SPSS was used to analyze the time distribution of different types of cross sections and the distribution range of each rut index.Through the analysis of long-term test data, the rutting depth, filling area, positive and negative areas, and the reasonable distribution range of the width-to-height ratio of the gutter wall were determined.Based on the analysis of the correlation between the indicators,it is found that there is a good correlation between the depth of the rut,the filling area and the negative area, indicating that there is a high degree of repetitiveness in the cross-sectional information of the rutting reflected by these three indicators, while other indicators have poor correlation and high independence, reflecting the cross-sectional characteristics of the rut from different aspects.Thirdly, based on CarSim software simulation modeling, the influence of road depth and groove aspect ratio on the driving quality of the vehicle during different driving conditions is analyzed. When driving across the gutter, the rutting depth should be controlled at Within 20mm;and when there is water in the roadway,it is necessary to first strictly control the vehicle's travel speed, try to control below 100km/h,at the same time, for roads with high vehicle speed, the rutting depth should be controlled within 10 mm.To ensure the safety and stability of the vehicle. Finally, based on the long-term test data in the LTPP database, the rutting development trend of different road sections under different temperature and load conditions is analyzed. It is found that the depth of the rut has a good consistency with the development trend of the filling area, and the wheel rut exhibits a phased development, including a rapid development period and a relatively stable period. At the same time, the analysis of different conservation measures found that the milling and overlaying has good short-term and long-term improvement effects on road surface ruts. The road surface milling has a short-term effect, but the long-term effect is not good, and the slurry seal has almost no effect on the road rutting.
